Formed on the 23rd April 1968 as a result of the amalgamation of the four county fusilier regiments:
- Lancashire Fusiliers
- Royal Northumberland Fusiliers
- Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regt)
- Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers
The 1st Battalion (1RRF) comprised of the old 1st Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (1RNF).
