Yet we were issued DPM webbing later and customised webbing was always allowed in the field from about 1984 onwards at least in my Bn.

QUOTE=JT0475;3496231]Isn't that why the original Desert Combats (1990 type) were cotton - the tropical kit we were issued initially to 'see us out there' was recognised as a fire hazard. The cotton kit didn't like battery electrolyte though - as the crutch on one of my pairs of trousers found out when changing engine batteries on my 43 [/QUOTE]

And they glowed in the dark too!!!

And I admit, v gay pose. And no I did not realise that I had non-matching DC's

Merino wool is the dogs. Wicks, insulates and does not get wiffy. As it is a wool product it is also somewhat fire retardent.

FWIW, the thin merino wool thermals are as good at keeping you cool as warm. They transmit perspiration very well, are flame ertardant and don't make you smell like you've done a week in the Kabul bazaar within 2 minutes of putting in on after washing it.

    Worth every extra penny IMHO.

Under Armour - fecking expensive, over rated and as if being caught up in an IED isnt bad enough, the medics and you wont be happy with having to peel / remove bits of melted Under Armour from you.

Avoid like the plague if you are leaving the boardwalk and heading out the gate.

The Afghans will make you a Ford Cortina in 37mins and deliver it to your basha. It might even work before it goes bang.

What is wrong with wearing what you are issued??

you might look like a chopper but it has been tested and re-tested so that it just has to be the best.
