Discuss New 5.56 ammunition? at the Weapons, Equipment & Rations forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; I have a Ruger 77Mk2 HBVT which must be a 1 in 12 as it ...
The remmy 700 has a 1:9 and will give me consistent one hole groups @100m with 55grain Vmax. Interestingly enough it does the same with the 69grain scenars which I use for tgt work. I like the Vmax because anything you hit explodes.

The V max has that lovely effect but even bog standard sp at those speeds has a smilar effect!
I knew a chap who used the a max when they first came out on crows in his 222 and his .17,he said the main difference was the detonation, the crows seemed to explode with the a max but the bullet would eplode on the outside of the fox causing horrific injusries and it would slink away in pain. He stuck to the V max after that for foxes and used up the a max on crows and magpies.
I've seen V Max used on Fallow and it was enough to put me off ballistic tips for life. The bullet hit the ribs and exploded leaving a hole like an exit wound and shredding bullet jacket and bone through the chest and gut. It died but it was worthless as meat!
I do use Vmax on bigger mammals when on vermin control duties and only for confirmed head shots. With Vmax I can guarantee that I will not have ricochets rattling all over the place. I have yet to have one fail to kill, even if the shot is not 100% onto the brain area: actually I prefer to place them just below the brain which usually results in an empty brain pan. Think I may try the Amax.
i'v heard a few sad storys of over expansive projies on large gamed animals (fallow+upwards), large surface wounds, wounded animals, ruined meat ect, they are perfect for goats but not an heavier animal i think.
65gn sierras, best allrounder.
still sticking with the 'ol 52gn BTHP on things smaller than goats,
vermin vaporizing, fav sport of rednecks internationally
Is there a new 5.56 ammo supplier around? We used some stuff on the weekend that was stamped T instead of RG and had silver primers. Didn't seem too good compared to the normal BAE ammunition. (did I just say that??)
GP90 5.6 x 45mm
Started my Shooting season today and used this type of ammunition for the first time.Seemed to be good.Fed fine with no stoppages (no problems there, surprise surprise! Its an A2 after all.....I have had stoppages, before anyone digs me up.Chamber full of crap!), the new ammo seemed to group lower at 300m.New POI that was surprisingly lower than I'm used to.
Dingerr;excuse my ignorance, but could the ammunition being set up for 1 in 10 rifling twist have a flatter trajectory when fired from a barrel with a 1 in 7 set up?Could this give me the lower Point of Impact (POI) that I saw today?
