    And?

The new body armour has the same plates. He'd still have died.

That's not the point I was making, my point was in response to "in use with those who need it"

Infantry patrolling around Sangin are surely near the front of the que.

The NI patrol pack is actually one of the better packs. Consider modding it to get rid of reasons for discomfort. For example, this Mystery Cinch can be used to massively improve comfort when wearing any pack, particularly with body armour.

also seen some good mods for practicality. a friend had the side pouches taken off and replaced with Molle loops, so he could fit pouches to the side of the Daysack rather than using what was there. said it was pretty useful.

my friend is going to ask you some questions. personally, I hope you don't answer them because I want you to die in here and end up inside a pork pie!

You can't be infantry with a statement like that. The NI pack is crap. It's far too small for a modern day patrol pack for a start. It is in essence, gay.

Wearing the issued assault vest or putting loads of pouches on your osprey is Remfy as f*ck, get a good webbing belt that hangs low enough to fit under osprey and put your issued desert pouches on it.

The old issued patrol pack is not really that compatable with osprey as it likes to hang down over your shoulders, I never really found a solution to this problem, I just put 500 link in my webbing with all my bombs and carried a camel back and that did me fine.

Take an anti boredom device loaded up with films and music and a power monkey to keep it charged using issued batteries that's about it, you get issued pretty much everything you need these days.
could not agree more. i just got a 5.11 tactical molle belt for extra Molle pouches. keeps my osprey front clear and gives me a place to store my gear & cigs etc.. a good buy
Also from either 5.11 or Vanguard, you can get a webbing yoke and belt that is designed to be worn under Osprey. The buckles, (which are usually located on the yoke with PLCE) are instead on the belt, and the yoke just has straps attached. This means the body armour doesn't push the buckles into your body all day...
I got a Molle belt from Borris and it the nuts email him on here and he'll make you one there comfie and designed to be worn with out a yoke.

firty-free US notes fer a utility strap?

I have some magic beans if you're interested.....

Have to agree with Fally, NI patrol isn't particularly good on FTX and is now apparently being phased out in favour of bigger and better role-specific ones that sit better over Osprey.

Would cost a lot less to print out the webpage, show it to your tailor, and have them come up with their own version.

As for the NI patrol pack being crap, I still beg to differ. For its size, it's good to go. For carrying more kit thanks to gear inflation, of course you need more (I'm happy with my Camelbak BFM 500 with added Kifaru Molle pouches). But the original poster was complaining about comfort, not lack of space.

Or cheaper still to get the cheapest civvy rucksack in Blacks, and cut it off... then get the Garrison tailor to sew it on a Daysack....

It's just outdated. The stuff it was designed for isn't relevant to our current situation.

On the other hand, plenty of people are making kit designed for the environment it's being taken to.

Suggest the Headtorch's from Petzl. Especially the Petzl Tikka Plus, great bit of kit and can be bought here
    Petzl Tikka

Also the Free Loader Solar Charger, great for using the sun to power any of the gadgets you've got whilst on tour, Freeloader
