Maquire - you can drop that Rolex to the bottom of the Mariana Trench and it will work. It can be used that way it just never will be but it’s used to show how well made it is. It’s all nonsense, really. Like dinger says a Japanese quarts movement will tell the time as well as anything. But read my post further up the water resistance depth mentioned 99% of cases does not mean how deep it can go it is an equivalency. 30m rain proof 50 meters splash and show proof 100m for swimming snorkelling and diving 200m for recreational diving. You could not take a 200m watch 200m down it would break.

Dinger- if you really believe that then why say 200? a Casio is as good as my Breguet surely?

I agree captain! The worst thing about a service is having your watch taken away for up to 8 weeks! I witnessed some awful things like watches coming back scratched and the watch houses refusing to admit they did it until we sent them the photos we took of the watch when we took it in. They are unscrupulous!

Thanks for the tip. When I have the spare cash I'm taking mine into one of the Omega boutiques in London & will take pics just in case.
To eat well in England one must have breakfast three times a day

London: its "buzz" and "vibrancy"... can be codewords for drugs, late-night noise and multi-culturalism run (literally) riot.

The boutiques are licensed by Omega and they still make a profit of the prices qouted. Try and contact Omega directly for a saving.
For the record I love Omegas. It may just be wanting to show off but a watch worn by James Bond JFK and Neil Armstrong is cool!

In terms of telling time if your Casio is quartz movement and your Breguet not, then the Casio is better.

When it comes to understanding and cherishing high end watches, the fact it can tell the time is almost taken for granted. It's the other factors that become important to the buyer - exclusivity, materials, complications, brand amongst them.

So really any watch over £9.99 is jewellery! I have a lovely skeletonised automatic watch with an aligator skin strap, I look at it 200 times a day and check the time on my phone lol so I have to agree with your second point!

Well it would come down to that if the only movement was quartz.

Well IWC did originate the "chunky watch" many decades ago. I'm not sure I'd trust them with military specifications though (despite the cost). I just think they stand apart from the rest - barring Pateks - (and generally appreciate in price).
It was good while it lasted.

I cannot see the point of wearing anything worth over £500 on one's wrist.

If they should once obtain a connivance, they will press for a toleration, from thence to an equality, from an equality to a superiority, from a superiority to an extirpation of all contrary religions. John Pym 1584-1643.

I reserve the right to say what the fcuk I like. The serried ranks of headstones in Flanders, Normandy and elsewhere give me that right.
