Discuss Need a new Watch in Weapons, Equipment & Rations on The Army Rumour Service; I have the G-shock 2900-1A. So did pretty much everybody else on my basic training. It made PT a bit of a nightmare when it came to getting our watches back!...

G10 for men. Bullet proof, waterproof to 20,000 leagues, in-built survivability against nuclear detonation, and stylish as all hell and get out. And free.

Plus you can accessorise with an ARRSE watchstrap. I don't think the ARRSE strap's bullet proof though.

Free? You have my miser sense tingling. Did you just nick one?
Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right.

I use a Suuntu D10 for Scuba & have to say I am not impressed.
Their X10 Military watch looks great on the spec sheet,
not so great imo in one's hand and certainly has some real build quality problems:
fascia scratching & detaching, battery life etc - there's quite a lot on-line about it.
Non Mac compatability [a long standing Suunto issue].
The rubber strap looks horribly like my D10 which cracks & breaks in humid hot climes.
Otherwise find a black analogue watch with decent glass, body & strap.
Seconded on Suunto being crap. My T4 fell apart whilst on ex, not so happy. The face scratched really easy as well. Build quality = s**t.

I can recommend the iron man series, light and easy on the wallet especially if you need it for phys as well. Also G Shock. Depends what you want it for really; I also have a Garmin Forerunner 310XT (which I highly rate) but that is never going in the field!

Never had a drama with my x10m personally - but need a back up if the btty goes and there is no means of recharging.

Casio Pro Trek, solar battery charging, Titainium case, very robust.
Down sides, Black finish is looking a bit shabby after 18 months daily use, compass isnt best accurate, more of a general guide, thermometer is that optomisic, I now use it to choose lottery numbers, and altimeter can get confused.
Just reading the instructions and figuring out what did what took months.
Overall, very happy with it, can be had very cheaply from FLEA BAY, think mine was about 90 quid delivered

Had three other G shocks, still got them.
They havent broken, just had each one that long got bored of looking at it, so upgraded, cant recommend these enough

    beaufighter,

You don't want it. Twoshedder66 has been sold a fake. They saw a boy from the valleys and flogged him some shiny tat copy of a Rolex, knowing that he wouldn't know the difference.

No genuine Rolex keeps good time for a month, let alone 40 years!

If you are of a certain age and no longer go off and do warry exciting things - get a Rolex, if you haven't as yet reached that advanced stage of decreptitude get something in the GShock line by Casio.

I know a lot of people will sneer at the Rolex thing - like a lot of blokes I used to have a watch collection then got a Rolex Explorer II from herself and now I never use any of the others.

    Skagen

Probably a bit too dressy for the field (G10 there), but some nice watches all the same.
