Most Proffesional soldiers don't agree with this sort of thing but then you are not one of those are you. You are a civilian.

Moving on from the first of my questions, do members believe it is widespread (although not captured on someones mobile/cell phone) & is it just confined to the septics?

the taliban do far worse.....and personally i dont care what we do to them.........if it was up to me the entire region should either be bombed out of existence or we pull out and let em get on with it

There is a bit of history to members of the USMC doing this kind of thing.

In Michael Herr's "Dispatches" he mentions a Marine pissing into the empty eye socket of a dead VC after the battle for Hue. Same month as the My Lai massacre.
