I would also reccomend Nielson. The family have now gone 4 times with them. they are great with kids and have clubs that teach surprisingly young kids sailing etc. aiming at junior yha qualifications, while the adults also have lessons and can achieve yha qualifications too. We went to Granada when children young teenagers and Egypt more recently, had a fantastic time. They tend to do lessons in the morning and in the afternoon you can use boats, sailboards etc as you want, while the staff run safety cover.

Island Cruising Club. Knew it well when I was a nipper and the clubhouse ship round in 'the Bag' was called Kiwi but I haven't visited for years.
In 1953 the UK Defence Budget was 11.3% of GDP. By 1966 it had shrunk to 6.6%. In 2013 it is hovering around 2%. Good job we're no longer expected to fight any wars, isn't it?

Just quoted £5500 + £190 for instruction. That's quite a lot for a holiday my kids may hate, but I like the idea more and more as I think about it. I might approach a local RYA club and see if we can have a trip.

A 30ft yacht that sleeps six. Bear in mind that Neilson are a top end company and I did say that I wanted to get away from the foul mouthed chavvy types that drink too much (he says on arrse home of the foul mouthed hard drinkers).

I was talking about small dingy sailing, hotel based. Safe easier way for the kids (and you) to learn the basics of sailing which can then translate to larger yachts. Also means if it turns out you all hate sailing, you can still enjoy the beach, the bar, local attractions etc. It is also a lot cheaper.

I am considering that type of holiday as well but the original thought was to do the sail and stay type holiday.

I wonder anything available in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand that could be cheaper.

I can earnestly recommend these people. I took my son (13 at the time) and had a week based on the island of Murter and sailing round the islands in the neighbourhood of Split and Zadar. The skippers are all experienced sailors and one starts out sailing from the outset. The 6 night trip also includes overnight stops, where the yachts are tied together and anchored. Great fun for kids, with lots of stops and swimming. You come away with a "Flotilla Skipper" qualification, having learned basic navigation, knots, sailing, reefing and other essential basics. All details are in the link and I have no problem with my name being mentioned, as I've already sent them a letter of thanks for their efforts

    As I said, highly recommended.

Already looked at this company and I'm very interested. Phoning them on Thursday as they are out of the country.
