Regrettably, I can’t wait for BA to go down the pan and have its routes taken over by more efficient airlines staffed with people who know when they are well off and show some appreciation for their fare-paying passengers. Apart from the damage such strikes cause the company and our national economy, my elderly mother planned months ago to fly BA from the USA to attend our daughter’s wedding and is now devastated that she is likely to miss it.
In 1953 the UK Defence Budget was 11.3% of GDP. By 1966 it had been reduced to 6.6%. In 2012 it is hovering around 2%. Good job we're no longer expected to fight any wars, isn't it?

50% of Cabin Crew reported for duty this morning, bit of a blow for the union!

When Unite's 'industrial (if you can use that word in conjunction to trolly dollies?) action' drags BA down the pan, what are they going to do for their members when they all lose their jobs and there's nothing in the koffers for their pension fund? Are they going to threaten more industrial action? "If you don't pay us a reasonable redundancy package and maintain our pensions, we'll go on strike"? All unions seem to do nowadays is to charge head long at self destruction with unreasonable demands.

Seems like this strike is a bit of a toothless affair -with plenty of BA flights going ahead as planned, and even more flight chartered from other airlines (including RyanAir allegedly - the CEO of which is one of the biggest critics of BA) - proves he is a true businessman after all!

Just proves he's a money grabbing, unprincipled gobsh1te..... but that's just my opinion.

As for the strike being toothless? Well it may seem so, but no matter how many flights are provided, or how well BA manages to manage the aftermath, the damage is done.

Who's going to book a flight on BA when there may be more industrial action in the future? There are plenty of alternative carriers. In a market where BA are fighting to rationalize in order to reverse long term losses, loss of customer confidence is not what is wanted. What is also not wanted is having the most expensive and most cosseted cabin staff in the industry.

My firm stated there would be no pay rises but we would get our bonuses
Unite came back with 2.5% an extra days holiday and private healthcare for all staff or 6%
1970's style comedy gold you could almost here a Sid James laugh when they announced it

They are currently canvessing other parts of the business to see if they can organise a strike because they have been told where to go

I shall walk past the pickets because I'm not starving so some scouse tw4t on £105k can pick a fight with management to get at Brown

The Union boy caling me a Judas when I tok a different role hasn't helped their cause either
Hopefully B.A. will keep them out just like the miners and finish Unite off

They might even do the next P.M.s job for him
We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

UNITE will be paying out £1m in benefit to the strikers.
