Re: 3 week 'travel' holiday/adventure...recommendations?
I use Exodus for all my adventure travel type holidays. They have a mixture of trips from 1 week up to multi-month trips. I have done 5 trips with them, all great, will use them again for this years travel.
I did this trip from Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and S Africa back in 2001, though try and do it north to south if given an option when you book.
They are group tours, however everybody else will be of a similar ilk to you. Your missus can join you at the end, though it sounds like she may not go for the more "interesting" bits of the trip. They also do 'family' versions of the trips which may be more suitable for your missus.

Central America's worth a shot. Far less European in feel than a lot of South America, easy to get off the beaten track, small enough to cover a lot different ground in 3 weeks, wonderful Mayan architecture and and easy to step back and forth between areas that are totally safe and the kind of places where gunshots go off in the street. Plus lots of gucci stamps in your passport and the right to say 'nicawahwah' because you've been there!

I went to New Zealand with www.contiki.com for Christmas '08 and spent almost a month there. It was the best holiday I ever had. :D
I've been trying to rope the other half into a camping safari holiday with http://www.kumuka.com/Default.aspx?A...ookieSupport=1 but she's still sceptical about camping and not having access to a shower for 4 days. She's Welsh so it's not as if she's not used to not having running water or electricity ffs! ;)Myprotein.co.uk 5% discount code- MP156384

You can fly into Goa itself mate.....
I flew direct from Manchester, only 9 hour flight.
If you have the time, go down to Kerala as well. Amazing place. Stay in a houseboat in the backwaters.

Japan,
But get the train ticket before you go! I landed at Osaka and trained to Kobe then on down to Hiroshima, spent some time there then caught the train and got off and on and often as I liked eventually ending up on the North Island before coming back down to Tokyo to have a few days there and then fly home.

That's all very well but what we really want to know is is it true about the schoolgirl-pantie vending machines?

Went to Goa with Mrs PoGs on our Honeymoon,
Great too travel around, enormously laid back, safe and friendly, cheap as chips.
Travel into the local big City and get a Thali from a hindu restaurant 6 curry dishes, Poppadoms, Naan, pickles and a can of Fanta ( a hearty man sized meal) = 40p
Fantastic wildlife, views, History, Beaches, you can stay at a beach hut over night for a couple of Quid or check into some great hotels, Nightlife can be very good in some areas and there are plenty of Markets for odds and ends and gifts.
Brill.
Only pain was traveling up to Birmingham and queueing up to get our visas and if it is still the same, get there early as they only issue so many a day!!
Have fun wherever you go... and maybe pick up a PocketComms for those more extreme destinations? :D

Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sautee it. There's, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... That's, that's about it............
