Re: Dusseldorf - any info/advice?
A quick shufty at Spoiltb's guide above prompts me to include the following (all subject to the IIRC caveat): Brauerei Im Goldenen Ring, on Burgplatz, and Brauerei Zum Schiffchen nearby. They're both at the north end of the Altstadt, not far from the river, and everything you could want from an über-traditional centuries-old German eatery: huge, scrubbed tables (and waitresses), mountains of simple but oh-so-tasty scoff and excellent beer brewed on the premises, all at very reasonable prices. Du lieber Gott, I miss that town!

He looks an' laughs at a' that.

Democritus reminded me of something - belegtes broetchen. Now these half rolls with stuff on top make really good pub snacks. However CAVEAT EMPTOR - the stuff that looks like raw mince is in fact - raw mince! Not to everyones taste.

Re: Dusseldorf - any info/advice?
I would go to Zur Uel in the Ratinger Strasse if I wanted to eat in the Altstadt. It's a couple of doors away from the Fuechschen at the top of the list.

Re: Dusseldorf - any info/advice?
Zur Uel looks good - typishe kind of place with a good rep and a long history prob try that one out. not look at the list but I'll print all of this out and use the info wisely.
Order Kolsch in D'dorf? Not sure I'd bother even in Koln again! (I would really.)
The best German pils I've ever had was in Mettman just east of D'dorff in small very 'local' bar (colleague I went there with was half German) and it had a really light frothy head and was 'light' to drink but was not a weak pils - ie well made and well looked after. For some reason I've called it Angel Beer ever since - maybe this was just what we nick-named it at the time. We only nipped over there for 2 small beers but ended up having at least 10 I think. The last time I was working in this area some nights we stayed up drinking until about 5am quite often. The family-run hotel used to give us free drinks after a certain time and as much of his scnapps as we wanted (we steered failry clear of it - it came in a glass container of about 20 litres in size in a wooden cradle - terrifying thing - looked like a fuel/air explosive device. )

Re: Dusseldorf - any info/advice?
I liked it as well but the combo of onions, beer and digestive tract - the resulting methane has to exist somewhere
