I'd agree on this. It's not the Ritz but its comfortable, clean and cheap.

Try top secret rooms on laterooms:

    http://www.lastminute.com/site/trave...m=adwds&bbkid=[4+star+secret+hotel]&x&gclid=COz4p6LGnZsCFU8TzAodQiNAjg

Basically you chose the area you want, chose how many stars / what facilities you want and they will give you a list of available rooms. You don't actually find out which hotel it is until the last minute, but you get big discounts and it all adds to the fun.
One cannot begin to fathom the immensity of the fuck I do not give.

Try the Sunborn Yacht by the Excel Centre. DLR/Tube links into centre, not too expensive, they do good deals, very comfortable and a little bit different.

try also hotels.com if you fiddle about with the settings you can see a map of the London area with the available hotels for that date listed and also set it to descending/ascending price order so you can see:

    hotel location
    price

then cross reference with 'trip advisor' (type in name and location) for impartial reviews about the place you are interested by. helps you know you are making a good decision and what you'll get when you get there. (and how to find the damn place sometimes / which local restaurant is best etc - people leave good tips like that.)

The Sunborn Yacht Hotel at Excel is no more, I'm afraid. It sailed over the horizon late last summer, destination Nigeria. I think it was bought by the Government there.

Bugger...!!!!! Shows how long it's been since I've been over that way. Spent many a good night there. I just looked and see they're going to replace it with a new one soon. Hope they do.
Thanks for the heads up Soleil.

They've usually got something interesting going on. Lots of stuff in Kensington sort of area. Museums- Hyde Park etc. and only 10mins or so from the centre of town.
