Re: Holiday Destinations you really don't want to share but.
Probably more my memory skills than map reading. I was taken there by my best mate who lives in Lop Buri. I may have got the name of the place wrong. In fact, it's quite likely I have, on reflection, although having just looked on multi-map, it does seem to be north of Pattaya.

Bolton.
Very underated as a holiday destination. There's even a statue of Fred Dibnah near the town hall.I'll have a pint. She's driving.

Re: Holiday Destinations you really don't want to share but....!
One other location...Ideal if your looking for a break on the Canaries...Puerto de Mogán, on Gran Canaria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_de_Mog%C3%A1n
Its basically a small cove which backs onto a village. The whole of the cove is surrounded by restaurants, it also has a very busy marina. The beach is good, and the breakers mean that it is very safe for swimming.
No Timeshare Touts....No lookie lookie men. A mixture of nationalities visit, brits are not the dominant customer......a great place for 7/10 day break. If your happy to mong on the beach all day, and eat well at night. My CSM told me that so it must be true. He also told me I was fat lazy c---, and he was right about that aswell.

New one to add to my black book:
Cadaques, Spain - catalan country, not far from the french border. A superb week spent in a beautiful setting. Great beaches, good snorkelling and the added bonus of being an art lover's destination. Salvadore Dali used to live around the corner at Port Lligat. Only drawback....interesting drive there, pretty hairy!

If you're heading to the canaries, La Palma is absolutely beautiful. Far enough off the beaten track (ie no direct flights from england) to keep the riff raff out, it's got plenty of locally owned + run cottages out in the small villages. Walking on the volcanoes is very nice, especially if you're sad and like geology (sorry no explosions since 1971). They're used to tourists, just not the type who think "La palma" is something you sit under to keep your can of strongbow cold.

Could really do with some advice any Arrsers out there spend any time in Fiskardo, Kefalonia? How picturesque is it, how good are the restaurants and were the beaches in the area worth the extra money it's going to cost me to holiday there. I know they will be pebbly (a must for me cause I'm a snorkelling fan) and from what I've seen so far they look small...just how busy do they get during late August? Is Fiskardo a good base, has it become too touristy and is there plenty of shops there? There will be a car involved so I can scare the local inhabitants and mountain goats.
Any feedback would be appreciated...make it good I crave the sunshine! There is a God and he looked down on the Earth and said "Let there be Liberal Democrats in the Government" and it came to pass that the disciple Dave brought Nick back from the wilderness and there was much partying.

Chau Doc, Vietnam. Spend a few days there. It's nothing like Thailand but there are loads of possibilities for extra curricular fulfilment activities - if they like you.... Then take the trip up the Mekong to Phnom Penh by boat. It costs bugger all - 25 dollars US for a two and a half hour drive up the Mekong. On arrival nip across the road to the Green Vespa bar, run by an Irishman, it has the best all day breakfast in town. Stay at the Raffles hotel but book online for at least 30% discount. Dont take the wife!

Valle d'Itria, Puglia Italy. Stay away from Ostuni and Alberobello - touristed out and a rip off. Go to the smaller towns. Beautiful, unspoilt fantastic food, ice cream and wines at very low prices. Rent a Trullo (type of hobbit house made of stone). Normally the town square has free ents or Festa's on most night. The people are beautiful and friendly and party till the early hours and no one gets lashed and kicks off.

Ieper (Ypres) in Belgium. No sun or sand and it's not off the beaten track, but it's not frequented by loud mouthed chavs either. If you're interested in the history of WW1 and you like good solid food in large quantities (and some excellent beer, as well) this could be the place...
Stonehenge! Duty Druid speaking, Sir!
This is Colonel Smith. Druid Jones, please.
Sorry, Sir. Druid Jones is off conducting a Bar Mitzvah.
Can druids do that?
We just have to remember the difference between a circumcision and a castration, Sir.

Yup. I'd agree with Punta Del Este. Not a Brit in sight. But since the USS Stump was mored off shore there were a shed load of Yanks. Stayed at the L'Auberge which was fantastic.
Assuncion Paraguay - Again No Brits. Actually no tourists full stop. Most expensive nightclub in paraguay 30,000 Guarani - £3. Included free beer all night. Hell of a place.
La Paz Bolivia - No Brit tourists because its a shithole full of assholes. The Riots were fun though, and when they CS Gassed the airport terminal the gas was reminiscent of the Falls Road 84 Vintage.
Georgetown Guyana - Another Shithole with no tourists. Of the 20 Foreign tourists that landed on the plane that week. 2 Were Shot Dead, 4 Arrested for Cocaine Smuggling. So a 70% survivability rate. The Kaieteur Waterfalls we trekked to were beautiful however.
Panama - No Brits. No tourists generally in Panama City. Met the Cousin of the President and we had a fantastic time on the piss. A Great fun town.
British Virgin Islands - Despite its name it doesn't have many Brits. No mass tourism except Wednesday which is Cruise Ship Day.
Martinique - A shed load of Frogs on Holiday. No Brits.
Pago Pago American Samoa. No Brits but a whole bunch of fat people. Naff all to do but still beautiful.
Tonga - Beautiful once you left Tongatapu. The Va'Vau Group is incredible, But it is full of Ram Rooters
Vanuatu - This is the one all the Breadstealers go to. No Brits. Meh Kind of a place, Port Villa is a dump but the offshore islands are fantastic - Spirito Santos
Samoa - No Brits.
Namibia - A few Germans on Bus tours, The odd Yarpie, No Brits. Skeleton Coast is incredible if wall to wall fuck all is your thing. Kolmanskop Ghost town is fantastic for that true "Get away from it all feel"
Angola - No Tourists. If you get past the landmines its an interesting place.
Mozambique - No Brits. No anybody except lots of Africans. But that was 13 years ago. The place has since been discovered by the Yaarpies
Swaziland - Small Brit Expat population. No Tourists - for a reason. Quite pretty though.
Laos - Didn't see a single Tourist the entire time I was in Vientiene. But you really want to go to Luang Prabang on the plain of jars where you get quite a few.
Vietnam - Phu Quoc island has no Brits. PM Me if you want a good hotel there.
Cambodia - No tourists in Phnom Penh - Markets are fun. Toul Sleng Genocide is not fun. A Shithole - but an interesting one.
Italy - Padova - No Tourists as its only 30 miles to Venice where they all go. The hills round there are really pretty.
Norway - No Brits. In fact no tourists full stop as nobody can afford it. If you can the south coast is beautiful.
Slovenia - One of the last Eastern European countries that has yet to be discovered by Tourists (except Italians). The countryside is incredible - especially round lake Bled. Ljublijana is a bit dull though.
Everywhere else I've been to has some sort of Tourism industry where you meet the odd Brit. If you're willing to widen your search a bit where you can come across more Tourists I can recommed a lot more places.

Depends on what you are looking for of course. However I can recommend Lyon in France. It is not a tourist centre, very much a working city and the third largest in France. However Vieux Lyon is fantastic and there is plenty to do and see if you are into history. It is the gourmet centre of France (not Paris) and has a huge number of great restaurants and bistros. It has a great arts & festivals theme and there is usually something going on. There are also boat trips (with lunch or dinner) up the Rhone and Saone rivers. All in all well worth a visit - but don't go 14 Jul - 15 August as France is on holiday and the place shuts down while all the Frogs bugger off somewhere else!!!!!!

Get a cheap flight to Girona, have a car waiting, and explore Catalonia.
Done it a dozen times, get a Rough Guide for help with accomodation.
Must visits are the long drive through volcanic country up to Ribes de Freser, overnight stay and a trip on the rack and pinion railway to Nuria, high in the Pyrenees, lovely place surrounded by mountain peaks.
Also the coast below Begur, lots of lovely little coves with crystal clear water.
Lovely medieval town of Pals near L'Estartit where you can snorkel or dive the Medes Islands
Farther north is St. Marti d'Ampurias, lovely white sand beach with Greek ruins behind the pine trees..... but keep away on week ends, VERY popular with Spaniards who turn up with trestle tables, extended families and food... it's heaving.
Went to Cadaques once, long, long drive... it was full. Nowhere to park, so we turned round and headed to Portbou, a small harbour with a lovely feel, there's a main train terminus up on the hill, you can get a train into France, Cerbere is only 5 minutes away.

Dubrovnik - like a mini version of Venice but cheaper and quieter and it doesn't stink of shit and dead rats.
Namibia - Simply awesome.
Guyana - Georgetown is a dump but once you get into the interior the wildlife and the rainforest is amazing. One cannot begin to fathom the immensity of the fuck I do not give.

Grau-du-Roi, Southern France, full of tourists, but mostly French, good food, bars and a beach that is perfect for kiddies, plus the town of Aigues Mortes to visit, just up the road.

Aleppo and Palmyra in Syria - not that many tourists when I went (but that was ten years ago)
Alghero in Sardinia (I think it got a mention earlier)
Croatia in general, stunning and not that many people around. Trogir, Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Brac, Korkula are magnificient.
Greece before and after the summer!
