Do you have a Facebook profile? Perhaps you have seen the profile of one of your instructors or have been invited to 'friend' someone under your command?
If so I'd be interested to know your views on how what we reveal about ourselves on social network sites affects people's opinions of what we are like.
If you are a Facebook user, in the Army (or have recently left) please have a look at my MSc webpage at www.hartleyhair.com and click through to 'questionnaire'
(You'll need a Facebook account to take part).
Your help will be very much appreciated and your responses will remain confidential.

LLL, I will fill in your questionnaire later on (I'm an instructor and have had trainees try to add me on facebook-I've declined them however) if you want your questionnaire tainted by having a filthy matelot take part?
However, I must say that I am slightly concerned at a schoolie not knowing the difference between effect and affect!
@ Detonator: Please message me with your concerns as I'm not sure what the problem is. Permission from whom?
@ The Matelot - Thank you for your offer (yes please) and the correction.
Oh I dunno, permission form Good or Bad CO maybe? Any kind of research for whatever reason request should go through them as a matter of good manners if nothing else.
Now I do add my students to my face book but only the female ones and only if they have their t1ts out.
Fair comment, but have a look at my website first and judge for yourself. I'm an Army-sponsored Masters student. See my other posts or if you prefer email me at 939hair@armymail.mod.uk
Despite a rather harsh initial response to this thread, I'd like to say thanks to those that have viewed my site (70 +) and taken the time to respond to this survey. Your views will be incorporated into my study. I am particularly keen to hear more views from JNCOs and SNCOs but all responses are welcome.
I think it is important to understand what we reveal about ourselves online, whether it is on here or on other social network sites. Your views and experience will help me understand whether such use is appropriate or not.
If you don't want to complete the full questionnaire, please just post a response to following question:
How appropriate is it for an Army Instructor to use a social network site such as Facebook?
Has basic changed that much in 20 years that social websites get used to 'connect' with trainees? In my day, the difficulty was avoiding connecting with instructors. You couldn't turn round without one of the buggers being there.
We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.
In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.

P.S. Harumph!
This is the 21st Century, we instructors have to move with the times and embrace modern culture.. personally speaking I actually find cyber bullying far gentler on my knuckles than the real thing!
