Re: Gortex waterproofs
I wish i had enough spare time to read every single post on the board. I'm not infantry so i don't look at the infantry section.

Re: Gortex waterproofs
I thought the idea was that as an inner you can still get to all the stuff in your pockets, the jacket dries fairly quickly, and it prevents the Gortex rustle, that recruits are so famous for.

Re: Gortex waterproofs
Rustling witterproofs!, an old wives tale. If the en can hear your gortex over the rain, there too dam close.
Just wear them over the top and crack on. The reason they don't have pockets is probably more to do with budgets and cost, than owt else.

Re: Gortex waterproofs
Mine has pockets and a rank slide anyway, I was always told to wear them outside. It's not that rustly anyway.

Re: Gortex waterproofs
Has anyone ever heard the enemy first by the sound of waterproofs?

Re: Gortex waterproofs
The latest issue ones have chest pockets and the slide. They are in the same DPM pattern as the combat jacket and trousers, rather than a different one, like the 95 waterproofs were.

Re: Gortex waterproofs
i seem to remember that this topic was done to death on another forum a few months ago. the general consensus was that you should wear them as you see appropriate at the time i.e almost always over unless you are so close to the enemy that they can hear your gortex. personally i don't think it really matters about the pockets on the outside as you are hardly going to transfer everything from your jacket pockets to your waterproof pockets and then back again every time it rains. the trousers are only any good on the range
