    Re: 1.5 Mile Run

To lads that have got through basic 11 minutes would "suck". But if you can enter basic at 11 you'll probably come out of it around the 10 mark, or so my recruiter says. I'm around the 11 mark at the minute, and i've only been running regularly for a couple of weeks, before which, if i'm honest, I did pretty much fuck all exercise wise.

I've always been skinny, and I used to walk 8 miles a day to and from school/college. Then I passed my driving test, and suddenly, I didn't need to walk anymore. 3 year later and I've realised that I should've stayed active, or atleast more active than I was.

I never thought I'd get down to a decent run time seeing as playing football I'd be fucked after 15 minutes, but interval running, aswell as just going out with the aim of getting through the 1.5 miles has worked wonders. I've found that running with music on helps too, it gives you that little extra incentive to go that little bit further, and I am hoping that the incentive of getting through the ADSC will drive me on to smash my current personal bests for everything.

    Re: 1.5 Mile Run

When I joined my run time was about the 10:30 mark, after basic it was down to 8:59 (pb)

Ran it again 6 years later when I rejoined, was running 12mins + and didn't even finish one run(old and fat... or older and fatter :P )... on selection day ran it in on the dot of 10:30.

Dig fcuking deep, you want to be a soldier and not a bloody civvie, beast your self in. It's about balls and when it hurts and you want to stop, not doing so because of pride. Just pick someone in front, over take them and pick the next. All you have to do is run your bollocks off for 10mins!!!!

thats because treadmills are no good for training on and only good for cardio. the daily run outdoors is what u need with abit of fartlek thrown in for good punishment.

Given that backblast's post was about 4 years ago, you might be waiting quite a while for a reply...
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.

First thing id like to say is 13:15 im actually suprised they took the time to tell him he failed he should have been taken back to the train station on finishing the run. Now thats out of the way id just like to disagree with the treadmill point mainly because im bored but also because i think its a load of excrement, although treadmills do increase general fitness no matter what incline you put then on it still cant compare to the old fashioned way of running up a great hill untill ones arse deserts them. Bottom line is the only way to get better at running as with all things life is practice, practice and more practice. Im speaking as a novice so feel free to call me a brainless drip if you must but i think theirs more truth in my theory than the treadmill one, not to say the research is wrong or anything but il just stick to what i know thanks

Ive been reading into this for a while now and decided to post , I have Pre-Selection on the 11th of January and was just wondering what the run time for Infantry It Specialist (Regiment : Rifles ) is ?

Your going in as a infantry riflemen not IT specialist. I have heard many times you will start of as a riflemen for 2 years then after 2 years have the chance to specialise such as IT specialist, driver, machine gunner etc. Regarding the run aim for under 10 minutes 10.30 MINIMUM.

Ok thanks for the response, Is the run time you mentioned (10:30) is that standard for infantry or Rifles because ive heard the rifles have to work that little bit harder . Also on a unrelated topic , Why do i have to study The choice It Specialist if i don't have to think about it for another 2 years at least ?
