Bollox to bulling!!!
Just get yer hands on a tin of issue dubbin with the NSN on it, chuck it in yer pocket just before parade, then when asked why you haven't bulled/polished your boots you tell them you used dubbin as it was issued to ya, break rank, grab the dubbin out of your pocket, show them the NSN*! Works every time!
* Be ready to remove your berret and prepare for some lovely exercise.

Tried that with BCH, Pln sgt watching old sweat gleefully applying silicone wax to new BCH says , "better not too much of that muck on, make it harder to bull em!"
Re: Bulling boots-All future discussions and questions here.
Well what I do is the following:
I put on about 3 or 4 layers of parade gloss, then alow it do dry overnight.
Then i begin to bull it with a sylvet which is soaking with throat ming, i.e. siliva, or water if i can be arrsed, (i find siliva has a better texture)
Then after the boot beccomes quite shiny, i use cotton wool which is wet/damp, and add very small layers,
after the boot is quite shiny from say 10 layers using cotton wool, and 10 from sylvet earlier, I just use a tiny amount of polish and dab the cotton woolon my tongue do get the right amount of moisture.
Works for me!
Does anybody have the definitive SAFE method of beeswaxing boots, and also, ive heard of using ox blood, and tan, polish, and which works best, and why.
Thanks
1. 1 x tin of Kiwi (parade gloss) black
2. 1 x tin of kiwi (parade gloss) brown
3. 1 x yellow duster
4. Some cotton balls
Melt black polish by setting light to it, preferabaly outside, put polish on boot with finger(it ain't that hot), start with a small area and little circular movements with your finger, when polish is sticky/tacky start with a new area, keep on doing this until you have layered each area about 3 or 4 times.
Soak you duster and squeeze out the excess water, wrap duster around your hand tightly with your index and/or middle finger in the duster. Have a saucer of water to hand, dip duster in water and gently stroke the surface of the polish with the duster, and lightly again with either 1 or 2 fingers start the circular movement on the area you want to shine. Every 2 or 3 times you do this change to the brown polish and do the same (adds deeper shine).
To finish off, use a tap of running water, very slow unbreaking run of water. Use cotton balls and adapt the same as duster bulling, but no polish needed here, keep the area of bull under the tap, this is called water bulling, and creates a crisp shine to the boot. Do this about 2 or 3 times on each area to be bulled. Do not let the excess water dry on the boot when you are finished, use the running water to clear up any little puddles, it does work.
For parade boots, ammo/dms, bees wax first.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! sacralidge!
all you need is some normal Kiwi polish, dont use it for brushing boots. From now on call it your bobbing polish, must be smooth and not contaminated. You need to invest in a sylvet.... ( or for us old pros "a didly" ) it is a sort of silver polishing cloth that you buy from silversmiths etc. with this cloth, stick it in the washing machine, clean windows floors the lot, miss treat it. then wash it again. ( you need to scrub it with a nail brush on regular occasions.) Get a pair of old tights, and tigh it to the corner of the cloth. wet the cloth then rince it out, make sure there is no soap left in it.Then you need to apply 3 fingers into the cloth about 3" from the edge. rap the cloth around your fingers so its tight and not bumpy. then using the tights, rap that around your wrist and hand, so the cloth does not move!.... NEVER use a yellow duster!!.......... Make sure your boots are pre brush polished, then apply a liberal even amount of polish to your cloth, tap it into a tin lid of water... plenty of it, then you need to start a prosses called "padding out" its a means of applying polish to the boots without lagging it up. Never lag your boots up, and let it dry...1 it flakes off, and secondly its crap. padding out is a rigerouse way off rubbing the polish all over the boot, never consintrating in one place for more than a few seconds, get all over the boot, loads of polish, loads of water. You know when there is too much polish, when the cloth is sticky on the boot, and when there is too much water when there is large water droplets. You are looking for a happy medium where it looks like a grey film of water and polish. You need to get a sweat on, and spend a good hour doing it. Occasionaly changing positions of the cloth remembering to keep it tight. When you think you have enough polish on, use less water, and less polish, , now you need to take your time, and you will notice a deep dark black shine. gradualy reducing the polish and less water, then you can start the large circles, looking for the bobbed look (glass).. needs a demo really..... but its the way we do it in the cav with the big boots. .... forget mamby pamby yellow dusters and burning polish, useing spoons and all that stuff. no offence to this persons post! lol
Re: Bulling boots-All future discussions and questions here.
Wait until your in and do what he Training Staff tell you. Pltn Sgts and Cpls will be dab hands at BULL and will show you all you need to know.
There is no quick way. KIWI polish only, it will be sold in the NAAFI with yellow dusters. New yellow dusters ARE the best as washed ones are too hard and will scratch whilst polishing.
Under no circumstances use the cheap Cherry Blossom shite, it is too oily.
Lots of little circles and patience.

Re: Bulling boots-All future discussions and questions here.
Alright lads. My first post woo hoo.
Im in the Army Cadet Force, and i always found that the best method was also the simplest. Not critisising anyone, but none of this fancy, cotton wool, running water, tights etc. All i do is sit down in front of the telly put on a couple of good dvds and bull away using this method (for normal boots, not ammo boots):
1. Firstly give the whole boot a nice thick layer of polish with your on brush using either kiwi parade gloss or guardsmans gloss, then use your off brush to take the polish off.
2. Then, whereever you want to shine up, either on the cap or all over etc. start with a nice new plain yellow duster, make sure its not got any crap on it, and wrap it round your finger **MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO CREASES** and load it up with a nice thick layer of kiwi or guardsman and rub nice small layers of polish over the area you want to bull, whilst doing this it will start to feel stiff, this is the time to lube it up a bit, in my opinion using a cap of cold water make you use too much water and therefore get a less shiny shine, just dabbing the cloth on your tongue, dnt worry its not poisonous, is enough to lube it, carry on this method untill the misty swirls have diasappeared.
3. Start again using a little less polish than before on a new area of the cloth repeat the last process.
4. Same as 3 using a little less than before etc.
5. build up about 7 or 8 layers untill you are using barely any polish at all, jsut a small smudge on the cloth, this is the last layer, you need to keep rubbing until every swirl mark has disappeared, leave the boot alone for a good few hours, when you return it shoul dbe ncie and shiney.
6. Repeat for the other boot.
For the first time it should take about 3 hours total, but once you have done it a few times the time should decrease, its not the quickest way but it works. Make sure the films you are watching arnt too nail biting as this will cause you to press very hard and pressing too hard ruins the finish.
Also im looking for some advice, ive found some stuff on teh net that "apparently" shiney your boots in minutes to the same as a normal bull session its calle d Shape Up, i have no clue what its like, im just wondering if anyone has used ot and can tell me what its like. http://cadetdirect.com/order1.php?pg=630
