On the subject of 'blowing' bridges, after WW2, when rebuilding all the bridges we and the Yanks had demolished in West Germany, all the major bridges were rebuilt with demolition chambers in the structure. How's that for anticipation?

What about Timble's point on the concrete bombs used in Iraq?

Hmm yes - 120 Baton - although the original plea was to use "shake & bake"!

84 TPTP was actually issued to most of the resident Inf Bns in the early 70s along with a modified Bren tripod
to deal with an anticipated "Disruption Day" where an attempt to overmatch the EOD assets by planting multiple car bombs.

Never happened, although a special 84 EOD round was developed, but never widely used..

We had a disruption day in may/june 83 with 18 suspect transit van bombs in Belfast! It sticks in my mind as we were stuck in sangers for 18 hours with no break, even the cooks were used!

Because ATOs are shot shots. We don't normally go for targets more than 75mm away (and yes you read that right 75mm).

    Speak for yourself mate...!

I used to be quite good at opening car boots with a 12 bore, and I know number of AT/ATOs who have won medals for shooting!

I guess you could add most bridges in Switzerland to that! Unless they've already been mentioned! Although not sure they count - the Swiss haven't had a war in which to use them!

I was suprised and impressed at the amount of hidden fighting positions that Dan Snow found when he did that documentary about the failure of the Germans to invade and what would have unfolded if they had.

Some villages and towns sat on A roads had entire houses and shops converted from the inside out into pill boxes, leaving the outer brickwork intact to hide the fighting position.
