The idiots guide is written on the casing. Probably.

It's hardly suprising that the Iranians had Chieftans as the Challenger was the result of a planned sale of product improved Chieftans to Iran, of course then the Shah fell leaving RO with a shit load of tanks to off load on someone.

Protectionism saved the day when HMG saw an oportunity to save a bit of dosh with a ready to go new tank with all the R&D done.

Have you forgotten that the Royal Ordnance Factories were owned by Her Majestys Government at that time?

The clue is in the word "Royal" as in Royal fleet Auxiliary or Royal Dockyards.

I have seen Russian AFVs in Lincolnshire recently. captured during a gulf War and presumably brought back to the UK for evaluation.

RO would still have been in the shit if it had not been picked up.

See also the spooky similarity between the AR18 and the SA80, it's almost as if the same machine tools picked up cheap from the defunct Sterling arms were used to make them, despite the fact that the AR18 had previously been turned down because bit's tended to fall off it and it didn't like mud and sand.

IIRC The idiots guide is on the left hand side of the launcher for firing. I think the idiots guide for fitting the tube to the launcher is in the packing case of the tube.

It is a proper Ikea job, with a stick man seemingly dancing about with the Stinger. The Yank FP mob had some in Iraq... just left lying around.

To be fair, how much training do you need? Point the thing at the target, wait until the target is locked. pull trigger. Rocket does the rest.... as is my understanding from the Tom Clancy book about the Afghani blatting Russian guard tower fires with one.

Funnily enough, not that long ago I spotted a BRDM2 in a field just off the A59 near Clitheroe - I presume it was something to do with a TA exercise going on at the time as it was a weekend, and there were a few stripped down LR's around, and am sure it wasn't 49Para!
