Could it have something to do with higher cruising speeds of the P8 vs the P3? Hence being able to cover larger areas in shorter time frames? Plus face it, the P3s are getting a bit long in tooth, their planned upgrade (P7) was cancelled sometime ago.

But it most certainly doesn't have the loitering capabilities of the P3, but BAMS might be filling in that role.

I have been racking my brain about it as well, ever since USN announced their plan a few years ago...

The current Charlie G is an impressive bit of kit - only about 2/3 of the weight of the old steel drainpipe, and with a useful array of rounds (HE, smoke, starshell, etc). I would have thought it would be a useful fire-power increment for current Herrick ops - bigger and better bullets than a 66, and a fraction of the cost per bang of a LAW or Javelin.

I thought the LAW and 66 were the same thing?!

The Flying Hedgehog - now THAT's a plane. I actually saw this one on the Thames in the 80's Stunning. (BTW, If you haven't been, the RAF Museum at Hendon has a Sunderland that you can walk through).

Charlie G? Bollocks, I was about to post this link - Army Acquires Recoilless, Shoulder-Fired Weapon

I fucked your country and became very rich. What are you going to do about it?

On the range issue, why didn't they use a bigger aircraft with better endurance? same goes for Airbus, after all B737 and the A320 are nothing more than the aviation equivalent of buses.
Eagles may soar but Foxes don't get sucked into Jet Engines!!!!!
