I have heard of short tours, but they tend to be trade specific.
If you are looking to do the TA to fund the way through education, I would not rely on it as a regular, income, or one that you can sustain your self on.
If you are coming to do the uni thing, unless you are doing something mickey mouse, keep in mind it courses get full on in the final year.
If you are going to use the time to get your life together, so you can deploy once your education is complete, and just want something different to break it up, by all means get involved. But the deployment bit, is kind of the name of the game.
And if you want advice on units, try and find one relative to your course.'I'll try anything once' -God-

I'm not looking at it for a regular income as my wife is a teacher and im a kept man lol, niether will it be funding my way through education as its paid for already, It is more on the side that i miss the forces and am happy to deploy once i finish, due to the fact I am already sorted for next years course that isnt a worry either :D

REME TA always on the look out for Drivers etc.
But you will still have to do recruit training though.

Hi Paul, I'm a former soldier who went to uni after serving for nine years. I also did the TA at college and faced being called up for Iraq in 2003. However under statute as you are in full time education (and I was then) I was exempt. The chances are that your unit will have their annual camp during the period of the summer so that might prove useful. It depends on which TA unit you join of course but some might offer the chance for you to get some sort of summer work/deployment during the summer you'll just have to see. However you cannot be mobilised as a full time student unless you actually wish to go. On a separate point as a married man, well once you get to uni as a former soldier but a guy still in his twenties you may wish you were single again! Temptation and opportunity will certainly beckon unless you look like Quasimodo lol! Personally I would recommend the TA in your situation my platoon had several students.

Then you will be dissapointed! Out of about 30 that regularly turned up to training nights etc only 4 of us were ex forces. (1xLI, 1xRGJ, 1x RCT, 1xACC..and he could not cook!!)
The rest were spotty hoodlums, geriatric "Cpl Jones's" or folk just passing through.
No steely eyed warriors at all.
