Bit of an update as I finally got on a recruit selection weekend, did my BARB and numeracy and literacy but unfortunately got deferred during the medical until February next year (waiting on letter to come through the post from glencourse confirming this), the Doc was really supportive and said he wanted to pass me but had to defer me, they offered for me to stay the weekend but I decided to leave early rather than holding up any of the other guys on selection.
I don't know if anyone can answer this (Duke maybe) but one thing that was mentioned by some of the other guys on selection and wasn't actually confirmed at any point was that the 4Para basic training consisted of an initial 2 week camp after the RSW, then the normal every other weekend, optional Tuesday nights and then CIC and P Company.
From my understanding, I thought it was that after passing selection weekend and starting the cadre, it was every other weekend, compulsory every tuesday until the CIC, then 24 hours rest afterwards and P company straight away and didn't involve any form of 2 week camp other than the 2 weeks at catterick as part of CIC.
If anyone has any idea on the above it would be appreciated as I am just thinking of carrying over some holidays to cover this period at work next year if it means an extra 2 weeks out of work which I hadn't planned on this time round.
I'm naturally disappointed that I got deferred but I've worked since May 2011 to get my weight down from nearly 23 stone to 14 and the deferral is just an opportunity to work on my fitness that bit more before smashing the selection.

What medical did you have on selection? I thought all medicals were held at the local unit, which you have to pass before they let you on selection. I failed my second medical a couple of weeks back and missed out on the selction just held. All being well i will make the next 4Para Cadre in January.
No one mention of an initial 2 week training camp when I was given all the dates, there is an insight weekend this coming weekend, after that I believe it was straight into the cadre.
I was really f*cked off to have failed a second time, especially on something that could have been flagged in the first medical and I would have had time to get the neccessary report done. Anyway not dwelling on it, the fact I was upset just proved to me how much I really wanted to do it. Like you I will just use the time to get fitter, faster and stronger.
I did the hearing test, eye test, pissed in a tube, blew in another tube and that was about it, went and saw the doc and after a chat for about 10-15 mins that was it, I told the cpl I had been deferred and had decided to leave, rather than stay the weekend and I was off camp and driving home about 20 mins later.

I was prescribed some tablets due to sleep problems last May, doc at adsc said I needed to be 2 years clear of any meds even though he thought I was fit to serve, he reckoned I should appeal it as I have a good chance if getting it overturned as since I lost 8.5 stone since then I haven't had any sleep probs.
