Thanks guys, currently running 1.5 mile in 10:20 although I have only really started attempting best efforts at this distance in the last 2 weeks, can do about 70 situps in 2 mins and about 55 pressups (havent tested this in a while on best effort), just been working on generally getting fit and improving across the board.
I lost 8 stone since last May (just under 15 stone currently @ 6ft so BMI wise still a bit high), dropped a hell of a lot of fat and have got myself relatively trim and fitness isn't too bad either although there is still excess and I have about another 1 stone to go but just wanting to start training and making inquiries as to what standard I need to reach as I don't mind training for another 12 months if it gets me where I want to be.
There may be a gap of several months between attending TARS and the start of your recruit training, so don't waste that time.
Duke just wondering, during this period would I be doing any training in the meantime with the TA unit or would it be a case of come back in x months to start training ?
If you are able,
save them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

It will vary by location depending on the availability of suitably trained staff. Boring, but the only answer is to ask at the TA centre you will be attending.
Within this, you will need to complete a Risk Reduction Run of 1.5 miles. The standard to join the TA is 14 minutes. I have heard of this being reduced to 12.5 minutes to join TA Inf

The pass mark for run times (and the power lift and jerry-can carry) do actually vary depending on which branch you are looking to join. The pass-mark for the Infantry (less the Parachute Regiment) is 12 mins 45 secs, but you are advised to be running well under this time. The pdf link posted by syguy from the Army website is current and correct.
The risk reduction run, is a part of Selection, as you pointed out yes its 1.5 miles in under 14 mins, it's is used as a gauge of the level of fitness as you start your TA / Reg career.
You will then need to pass your Personal Fitness Assessment (PFA) which consists of sit ups, press up and then a 1.5 mile run, the amount of sit ups, press up's and run time depend on your age and if you are male / female.
STILTS
I did TA selection in December and we didn't do sit ups and press ups. On the phys side it was the 1.5 mile run, powerbag lift and jerry can carry. Everyone did the run in under 14 mins, but there were a couple of guys who had wanted to go para but didn't make the time.
The times for RSW are as follows:
Paras: 10.30
Infantry: 12.45
RLC: 13.15
Others (Medics, Musicians etc): 14.00
Hope that helps, you also get 30 secs extra for every five years over 29 you are; however as people have said you should always aim for under 10.30 regardless of what you need as this is what you'll need to get at your PFA every year.
As has already been said, you don't do the other aspects of the PFT (press-ups and sit-ups) at your RSW, but would be silly not to be aiming to be working on them. What you will have to do is a jerry can carry over 150-200m (20kg each hand) and powerbag lift up to 1.5m (15kg building up to 40kg).

You only do the RRR at selection, then you will do your PFA either during TSC (A) or TSC (B) if TA or during Phase 1 if you are regular.
All ways look on the bright side of life!!!
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cros...s" since the blitz in 1940
Guys, I'm running the 1.5 miles almost bang on 11 minutes at the moment, which I'll be the first to admit is shite. I've got recruit selection day coming up pretty soon though (going for infantry). Are the staff going to be unduly bothered by this time at selection or will it be fine?

For infantry they wil be looking for a well under 10 min run!
