Fcuking kidding me!...now thats a kick in the ging-gangs if ever I saw one. I thought they opted for it, they can't train up that many chefs and mechanics every couple of years can they?

Yeah, I know all about the 'trade' thing...but c'mon...wtf is that all about
Actually, doing one of the less popular trades can be a smart move - they're so strapped for people doing them, you can then go on and do the SQ of your choice if you spend 2 years as a chef. Plus, they tend to move in and out of Troops as Marines/Cpls etc to keep their skills up.

    Bang on the money.

One of my kids joined Royal, got posted to 42 as a 'grav', then got pinged to be a clerk !

Not a happy boy, but lucky one of his muckers volunteered to fill the post, and my lad went with his first choice of BRF.

Fair one, just seems a bit odd. If you were a grav in a section and your new full screw tips up from a posting as a chef...think I'd be less than impressed tbh. But each to their own I guess.

Well, they all do exactly the same command courses, and I think that GD type jobs happen straight off JCC/SCC, then back to SQ. In fact, I don't think you can get past Sgt as a GD (possibly CSgt).

    One or two did!

I know a few of those who made it through Superintendant Clerk & are still serving as Majors almost 40 years later.
40 odd years of working in the BOR, writing reports on blokes who were doing what they wouldn't & collecting medals without 'Ever' getting their boots dirty!

When they had to join the AGC or go back to the rifle companies, my heart pumped piss!

Then on the other hand, a couple of decent blokes who were wounded in action & opted for the BOR, rather than getting out!

    Big difference!!!!!

With UOTC's they don't have one main unit affiliation but have three wings; for example an Infantry Wing, an Artillery Wing and a Logistics Wing. So there is a possibility that they have a Para Wing.

With normal Army units unless you're attached as Para you're going to have to wear the regimental lid. You'd still get to wear you Para Wings though.

OCdts though are a bit nuts generally; had a lad come across into my unit from a UOTC and tried to mix dress wearing an OTC Capbadge with a RA TRF, LOL.
