Few get asked and MoD appears to have once again tied itself into a knot by both not having a usable database and by making Policy decisions not to mobilise people for their civvy skills. ( So how does that work for the Medics then. - Ditto the many Civils in the RE or the Hauliers in the RLC ???)

I think that the use of willing amateur amateurs (for this read TA officers) does not make sense in areas like CIMIC and SSR or MSST,

Thats the point - there is a good chance of finding a TA bloke who is NOT an amateur - and even the amateur TA bloke is probably more sympatico with both the civpop and the NGOs than some thruster keen to get back to calling in the fast air.

I agree that it would be counter-productive to increase sanctions on employers - but HMG needs to positively incentivise them. Some old codger from Sabre banging on about transferable skills does not cut it when balanced against the loss of a key player for up to 11 months.

Surely the issue here is that TA are amateur professionals, as opposed to regulars who're professional amateurs.

No. The course I wanted to attend was a victim of last year's budgetary fiasco.

    Re: TA ISC Cse

TA(ISC) 2009 was programmed to last 8 working days (but of course got binned due to training finance cuts etc etc). The course this year runs for 11 days.

Does anyone know if this is due to a significant change in content or due to the middle weekend being admin time/weekend off?

I ask this as I'm trying to sort out preparatory reading etc (I'm aware of the reading list) and the programme for 2009 seemed to give quite a good steer as to things to cover well. I was wondering, for example, if COIN was making a more significant appearance.

I know this info will more likely than not appear on the TA(ISC) website - I just don't want to wrongly allocate what little time I (and everyone else I'm sure) have. Yes I know it's months away! I just get chuff all time free so the longer the lead in time the better.

    Thanks

Well, my course feedback form asked for more evening work and more phys...

Seriously, the course really suffered last year from being far too short. Everything flew by, with the effect for the majority of the attendees of simply (potentially) raising their awareness. Topics only tended to make sense with a decent amount of pre-reading, and there was no time to really work through the MapExs etc.

If they've expanded the course to have more emphasis on COIN then so much the better. In terms of prep, the reading list is pretty comprehensive. I got the impression last year that there were not too many who actually had read the material before hand. To trot out a real cliche, I learnt at least 50% of my take-home useful stuff from the other attendees.

The 2010 TA (ISC) cse website has been updated as of 12 JUL 10

Territorial Army Intermediate Staff Course (TA ISC) — TA ISC

It looks like there's still some updates to be done (like programme etc) but thought I'd mention it so if you're going you can get a heads up.

There's nothing quite like posting a map on the internet and then asking people to treat as RESTRICTED is there?

    Welcome letter — TA ISC
