So England were shit.
Who will win?
I am hoping for the Germans. Huge amount of respect for how they always come prepared for major tournaments (unlike the English).
I especially don't want the Spanish to have success in this or anything else. Primarily due to their stance on Gibraltar. Not that I'm being childish or anything."If a terrorist organisation wanted to knock out the moral compass of Britain, all they'd have to do is to kill 100 celebrities at random. The entire country would have an instant nervous breakdown."

Not having checked back through all the posts, but I don't think anyone here thought England could win the tournament. Beat the Italians, yes. But not win it all. I said it would be a close game with a mistake being the deciding factor. As it turned out, I was partly right. Over 120 minutes it was close as it ended 0-0.
However, the Italians certainly out played England last night. And England or the English game was shown up to be what it is. Archaic in it's approach, and those Italian papers firmly hit the nail on the head. Things won't change though for the forseeable future as we do not have the coaching set up or skills to develop better players at a young age. And that goes for British football, not just England.
I also heard a pearler on the radio earlier today. I can't recall his name but a pundit (ex-player) said that it would be a good idea to have midfielders that can use both feet. Fuck me! Really? What an aweome insight into the football brain. It'll never catch on though. Having players that are equally comfortable on the ball with both feet. I can't see the Spanish going for it for a start.

Did anyone happen to catch the commentator's throw away comment last night when one of the Italians took a shot (of many) at goal and hit the England No. 3 in the rear?

Steve Gerrard interviewed afetr the match "our players gave evry'ing tonight". Which is 70% of 'everything'.
Couldn't believe that Milner kept being played, and Young was diffy. Rooney seemed to have no pace or timing. Terry (of whom I am no fan on his many moral failings) seemed to have played the strongest of our guys. Parker was a one man wall but lacked support in mid-field from Gerrard who wanted to be Beckham and play all over the pitch. I would much rather have seen him behind the striker(s) where his ability to keep a hard low shot on target was sorely missed.
Yet again Defoe was taken and pretty much unused. Even though I'm a Spurs fan I can take or leave him, but not to use him when others are not sparking is really odd. Admittedly not as odd as Sven leaving him out of the squad but saying he could stay with the squad while taking a young Walcott who apparently "went for experience, not to play".

But there's no way a team with eight league and four Champions League winners and with all eleven of their starting eleven with Champions League experience could possibly have dreamed of doing better...
I have to admit Woy is a genius in one respect - he can't half drag expectations down.
