Cmon flash natural ability only takes you so far then you have to train to be physically and mentally fit.

I'm not saying that the blokes of yesteryear werent fit but now the whole lifestyle of a pro driver is totally focussed on the result now.
During my pathetic attempts at club racing I remember getting on the bike half pissed to qualify ; it dont happen anymore

So why are you still shit at BF3?
    If you are able,
    save them a place
    inside of you
    and save one backward glance
    when you are leaving
    for the places they can
    no longer go.
    Be not ashamed to say
    you loved them,
    though you may
    or may not have always.
    Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
    with their dying
and keep it with your own.
    And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
    to call the war insane,
    take one moment to embrace
    those gentle heroes
    you left behind.

I rather doubt that Jim Clark, Stirling Moss, Fangio, or any of their ilk were climbing into a F1 car half in the bag. They knew damned well the risks and were still prepared to take them at far less than the xx million per season that the "stars" of today get.

But, who's going to be watching and who's given up with the move to PAYV on Sky?

Personally I'm still very disappointed over the loss of F1 on the Beeb and I won't be
paying for it with Sky, I just can't make my mind up if I'll watch the highlights on the BBC or just move to something else.
BBC are still going to show 10 races live, and highlights of the rest, so it's not all gloom and doom.

Return the tracks to what they were in the 70's, the Nuerburgring in its full glory, Curva Grande and Ascari at Monza, Mosport, Brands Hatch. Then we'll see how many of the socalled drivers of today would get into the car and race.---Rant off.
But of course, noone even watches F1 for the competition anymore. It's just a really nice way to present all innovation in the car business. Half of the drivers, or even more, are just extras. Maybe Alonso or Kubica (whos probably out for good) can make a difference with their skill, but most drivers are basically not even necessary

There is a famous anecdote of a Le Mans ??? driver being legless as a fart as his car was DQ'd then allowed in the race; he'd gone to the pub.
They dragged him out of the pub and into the car chucking coffee down him every pit stop. Afterr a few stops he asked for a brandy to stop the caffeine shakes
