My team of today has to be Lotus. 10 minutes to get the team and cars ready and yet they still managed to get both cars over the line. A massive achievement (and I'm a bit biased)

As long as it stays like it is, they should point the cameras at the back 10 for 90% of the race and just update us on the leader (who will be, more than likely, the pole winner) every 20 minutes or if he breaks down.
Agree with everything you say, and concur with the sentiments.

One small point - Trulli didn't finish, he pulled up on lap 46.

You are indeed correct, I must have been going for a refill or a de fuel when that one happened

Agree with your later comment as well, it has become way too sanitized, a lot of the risk seems to have been removed and that makes it dull.

We are talking about the most advanced cars in the world driven by the best drivers on the planet, it's supposed to be dangerous, that's why I always sit at Stowe or Bridge (or Woodcote if it's raining) just to see the "offs" or the near offs.

Obviously we don't want to see the drivers hurt, but we do want to see spectacular attempts at overtaking and spectacular crashes when it all goes pear shaped. It's a voyeur sport where everyone is willing to put up with the boredom and let's face it, actually BEING at an F1 GP is incredibly dull if you happen to be seated at an easy part of the track and can't see a TV, you can only go "woooo" at the cars passing you for 3 seconds so many times before it loses all interest and you head for the nearest bar.

We want risks, we want risk takers. The drivers want risks and want to take them. The best drivers we have ever seen have all been chancers, I'm pretty sure that they won't be happy with the "follow the leader until he finished or breaks down" system that there is now.

Rocket packs would be another great idea, but I don't think that the FIA will let that one fly.

2 days of F1, makes more money than 1 day of F1, that is the problem. The reverse grid idea is a very good idea as we would get to see so much overtaking. But how would you implement it?

On the other hand, how the feck do you change the rules after the first race in a sport, and retain credibility?
    British Touring Cars?

Would certainly even things up with there being a distinct lack of overtaking opportunities.

In the Moseley era, there would be no chance of a u-turn or change in rules. A measure of how effective Todt will be is how he handles this. Nice to see that so far he's kept his powder dry.

They have to keep the brunt of the rules for this season in place - can you imagine the uproar if they brought back refuelling?

I can imagine that tweaking only will be done - for example make it compulsory to do two pit stops.

Mind you - they may just wait and see what happens as is. A wet or even very wet Malaysia will sort the men from the boys.

Not going to be easy this year, unless you managed to sneak a Ferrari in the first race it's always going to be a case of catching up on the money front. Can't see anyone doing anything other than swap for the same value rather than ramp up.

On the race front, will be interesting to see what the Maclarens can do. My guess is they just got lucky with the rain coming when it did and that the grid will look something like Bahrain.

Let's hope Lewis remains focused after his run in with the filth last night. Ironic isn't it - a nation of convicts nabbing an Englishman.....

Hamilton has had such a controlled life for someone who on the track, lives on the edge. Maybe now daddys not around, we will see more of this rebel inside of him.

Is it true that the 'Convict' Copper who stopped him said:

"G'day sport, who do you think you are - Michael Schumacher?"

    :D :D :D :D

Just to remind all you petrolheads out there, if you want to see some racing and overtaking, it's World Superbikes at Portimao this weekend.

    www.worldsbk.com

You won't even have to get up early to watch it either.

True, 11th in qualifying was pants, but thats cool with me as I'm a button & Schumacher fan..

With regards to Lewis & his doughnuts, so what, wheres the harm or danger?? (On a Public road just means it was free entertainment for those who were watching ).. Everyone who has ever raced & done car stunts professionally knows exactly how safe & in control of the car he would have been. It was just a bit of harmless on the spot fun & it should have been dealt with as such, not in the overboard way it was. The boring old bill were out of order, not Lewis. :P

Doughnuts or spinning his wheels pulling away from a junction?

Nothing like exaggerating the facts, is there? Are we sure he didn't run any aborigines over as he was doing the doughnuts?

I guess that's what happens when you're on a pedestal - someone always wants to knock you off.

Here's hoping red Bull don't have any reliability issues tomorrow, although weather may well be the winner and make for an interesting spectacle.

blimey - now there's a turnip for the books.

I wonder what effect this will have on Hamilton's confidence now? not only pretty shown up by Button in qualifying, but he's won the race and made it look easy in comparison to Lewis' struggles this morning. his 'why did you bring me in?' over the radio was quite revealing, I think... but is it only a temporary blip or the start of a more serious crack in the hamilton-maclaren alliance?
