Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse:
Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Bid to cap ownership of guns
"THE Scottish Government wants the power to limit the number of guns that any one person can have after ownership figures hit a record high."
That'll be the a couple of percent increase over 10 years after, I'm guessing, a historic low?
Fucking morons. I thought it was said the NATs were cautiously supportive of the shooting industry, because of the revenue it brings? Well, that's pissed on that bonfire.Last edited by FHA; 30-05-2012 at 13:03. Reason: speeling

That'll be interesting, differentiating between collectors, ghillies with estate rifles, clay shooters etc etc. Still, Politicians can say they've 'done something' even though it probably wouldn't make the slightest difference. After all, Hamilton only used a couple of firearms, as did Brevik as did Ryan and so on ....

I cant see the westminster mob allowing the genie of full firearms legislation powers out of their grasp. Although they have started with the silly airgun bit I suppose if they get the independance vote they want they think they can do what the fuck they want. I tell you something I will possibly be looking at Africa for my shooting trips as its almost cheaper than a week on the hinds now!

I wonder why these maroons (as Bug Bunny would call them) are never asked why someone having more than n number of guns (where n is a number plucked out of the by a Civil Servant or ACPO) is s "bad" thing"?

ACPO haven't talked about a limit on numbers. The only time they do is duplicate calibres and security. Contrary to popular myth there isn't a big banner in the Home Office saying 'ban all guns' or 'reduce firearms ownership to a minimum.'
Politicians are the ones who go on about numbers, as do the media as it's invariably called 'an armoury' of five firearms or more.
Then again, the whole idea of the Blackwell report was to restrict firearms ownership to 'those the Govt trusted' and led to the 1920 Act as they didn't want a Bolshevik style uprising. Even then, they didn't envisage people having the amount of firearms they do now, partiicularly as shot guns (over 18" barrel) weren't on certificate at the time; so no fixed limit was contemplated IIRC.

I don't believe that I said that they have.
However as the Home Office they do have previous in wishing to "restrict to the absolute minimum the civilian ownership of firearms". For example the infamous 1973 Green Paper; many of its proposal were simply put on the back burner and brought forward on suitable occasions: Hungerford & Dunblane spring to mind.Terry

This really pisses me off. Scotland does not consist of just Edinburgh and Glasgow, it also contains mostly rural areas where shooting is not a sport, it is a nescessity.
Some fuckwit in a city takes pot shots at someone, and those of us that use air rifles as a tool get penalised. I cannot use a FAC certified rifle because of the close proximity of a road to my land, even though it is an unclassified road with virtually no traffic on it after 6pm. I have to use an air rifle, snaring is now banned up here and traps just don't control the numbers enough.
Add to that the vast amounts of money people spend on organised shoots up here, money that goes into the local rural community, that supports people who, because of the remoteness of where they live, have no other option than to work on the estates.
I personnaly think it is a rather telling statement that many of the rural areas in Scotland, especially the Highlands, a staunch "braveheart" area, did not vote SNP this time around in the local elections. The rural people of scotland get shafted left right and centre by polititions who believe the Central Belt is the only place in Scotland.
