Actually, ACPO were led by the Pol Fed on this one as the Fed wanted a ban, not ACPO. They went with it to provide a united front.

I actually did do that, my own MP & HO for whatever good it did.

At the same time taking incoming from even my own family on the hunting/shotgunning side saying that we didn't really need pistols, blah, blah, blah.

Anyhow, not one to bear grudges (I lie of course, I love to bear a grudge) I did go on the countryside march when they all though they were going to get reamed good and proper. It did give me some pleasure asking where the fook they were when pistols shooters were being offered up as the sacrificial lamb.

Those divides between the various shooting sports are always going to be hard to unify. Even if it did get unified, how long would it be before one group decided it wasn't being properly represented and broke away. Happens elsewhere (other countries) to a certain degree, hunters don't get the target boys and front stuffers don't get bum loaders.

Ohhhhh can't we all just get along...in a word NO!

But we should try to and probably this year would be the time to do just that.

7 (1) or 7(3) ie at home or Bisley etc? IIRC that was HSBA and the presentation by David with the museums consortium.

Meant to ask Plunderer or Beerhunter that one on his, but forgot.

Did they send your GSM back?

Howard the Coward...yup that's about the long and short of it.

I sent my wank sock and kept my GSM...Maybe that's what caused them not to listen?

Another letter writer. Good to hear. Not many of us according to the Home Office, bearing in mind 57,000 or so were affected.

I couldn't do it, especially after they started saying that rifle shooting and possibly injuring a fox was part of their argument.

As above in my post. You'll always get the offshoots like Gamekeepers Assoc and to be frank I wouldn't want anything to do with SRA. SAGBNI being borderline and sailing so close to the wind they need a spinnaker! Having said that, if they could all agree on one spokesperson for shooting and rural activities who has no tarnish and they followed the party line even for a couple of years, it would be more than helpful imo. Never happen though as getting shooters to look outside their own little world is nigh on impossible imx.

It would, as I've mentioned on the pistols thread. Now's the time. Don't mope outside Woolwich whinging about Olympic shooters coming across and shooting. That's negative. Go for all of the positives such as safe, secure, enjoyable, for everyone (inc disabled shooters), all of the family etc etc.

Put a positive spin on it, not whinging about what has gone on in the past. In the meantime, as Beerhunter says; speak about how rediculous the ban was. You can have a pistol for everything except target shooting. Didn't affect armed crime in the slightest.

Anyway, that's my take on it FWiW

    You're bang on mate.

Push the positives this year for sure, it's about the only way...dripping about the past won't really help the cause.

Having read what Ugly intended to write on another thread a while ago, there is a nack to writing things which don't make you appear to be a nutter (like on Arrse!) [not you that is, as in people post things on here which immediately makes you think 'nutter']. Get the point across clearly and calmly without the ranting etc.

In public speaking, when you get heckled, just smile and accept the point and move on. Mike Y tried doing that in MAG (Mothers Against Guns) and had (nearly) the whole audience against him whilst responding to a woman shouting about him being a shooter.

It's not easy but someone must be able to do it.

[serious off]I prefer the skiffing on mugs and even 'dipping' in the coffee. They can't understand why you are in fits of giggles under the table![/serious on]

Yes section 7 all of it was started because an HBSA member approached his MP who was Howard and stated the truth about the proposed historic vandalism! This was all revealed in DPs retirement speech from the IWM at the HBSA!

No, he did explain how with the door opened to Howard the HSA led the charge and a creditable defence of classics was put forward resulting in what we still have, of course if you happen to do the rarity and aesthetics line then a 2 screw Ruger Blackhawk in a certain calibre made as late as 1970 can still qualify as would the gold plated HP of Ghadaffi if it was available!

They would, although a certain former high ranking general failed. Aesthetic quality and rarity, so the nazi GP35's failed. Not that I agree on banning handguns anyway
