You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. However, you can bl**dy well make it wish it had!

How quaint, is the problem buying the gun and taking it with you or buying it there?

No buying the gun here but its a short turnaround beofre going to cyprus.

What I thought was that as its pretty much the same as a SGC the RFD could fill it in with all the releavent details and then I notify the licensing in the same manner.

The RFD can't put the Authority's stamp and Chief Officers signature at Part 3 or the Authority's stamp at Part 4.

To YOU it might look like a shotgun certificate, but to me it looks like an EFP, NOT a permission from your county chief Constable to acquire/purchase a shotgun.

The document simply authorises you to travel in the named countries of the EU with your UK-licenced firearm, not to buy one anywhere you like and crayon it on the EFP.

Just have a look at the document again - it it a Europeans Firearms PASS/PERMIT, and lists the firearms that you already possess that are being permitted to travel around with you - not a licence to buy.

I have never had one and I always thought it odd that some of the club I was in got them so they could buy overseas and bring back!

It makes it easier as French (for example) gun shops have seen an EFP, but unlikely to have seen a Brit SGC. You need to present the shot gun (or rifle) to Customs/UKBA and for them to enter the rifle on Table 2 of the FAC or shot gun onTable 2 of the SGC. Whether they do or not is moot. You need to notify Police of the acquisition and if you want it on your EFP, get it amended by firearms licensing. Same as FAC/SGC if not entered on by Customs/UKBA.

So with an EFP with slots to aquire and the relevant UK fac/sgc then bringing stuff back can be easy?
I had a client who had a .22r and 3 shot 12 bore in France. he got his efp and U tickkets, went home, and brought his stuff back having entered it on his UK tickets himself.
Surrey police notified and happy as they didnt have to do much!

No, because there is no such thing as: "an EFP with slots to acquire?

An EFP can only be issued by your local plod for firearms that are on your FAC or SGC. They have no authority to do other than that.
