Here's a tip, unless you have something relevant or interesting to post, don't bother. Thanks.

I certainly wouldn't give them any kind of firearm. As a minimum, that gun will. be put into their statistics as a firearm that has been "recovered" by the police.

Why do you think that is irrelevant? (and BTW, when did you become a moderator?)

Someone handed a gun in to the police and tac pointed out that handed in weapons have been sold by corrupt police in the past.

As you will see from my post, when it come to firearms, the police are not trusted by the shooting community. I think that is very relevant to this forum.

Well given the circumstances of its arrival in our family, seems like a fair one to me!

As I said, I just didn't want anyone getting blinded by some 17 year old scrote. It wasn't worth anything, I did the right thing, whatever the coppers did with it.

I absolutely agree with your motives in disposing of the gun safely. I think that all member of this board would applaud those motives.

In fact it's very sad that so many members have so little faith in the integrity of the Police.

As my veneered colleague Beerhunter so succinctly points out, the precedents are there and well-documented of guns having been handed in to various police forces turning up in, ahem, unexpected places. I recall a story, perhaps now an urban myth, of a significant number of handguns, having been handed in at the last Great Betrayal, re-appearing in criminal hands.

However well-intentioned police forces are, just like the rest of the population, they are made up of folks who represent a cross-section of the community.

It only needs one small turd floating in your soup to put you off the rest of your dinner.
