Take it everyone is referring to .270 Winchester rather than Wetherby Magnum!!

(which was apparently based on .30-06 - .270 win that is)
The major didn't think of his superiors as fools, of course,
since it would follow that everyone who obeyed them was a
fool. He used the term 'unwise', and felt worried when he used
    it.

.270w , try and get Wetherby Magnum ammo up there , stuff like that has to be ordered in in most of the smaller dealers .

Yes, it's a necked-down cartridge that started life as a 'wildcat'. The smaller calibre in the mahoosive cartridge gave the .270win the speed and flat trajectory that the 30-06 lacked.

    It's a good all rounder the .270Win.

I've used mine on reds and even did some night time foxing with it using those rather fine V-Max 110grs.

Good to reload for too if you end up down the reloading track eventually.

may i drop in my personal long range fav??????

.25/06, no issues dropping the largest game (red deer sized), out to 400 meters easy, min meat damage (you dont need a belted magnum caliber, please ignore the power freaks), and its THE flattest shooting cal with a decent sized large game projectile you can get.

I reload a 150gn load that performs as per standard .270win tables, and produces clover leaf groups at 100mtrs.
I cannot get a low powered 130gn load to work well.....

Well for scotland nothing lower than a 6.5 and it would be fine for all deer. If you feel underarmed then any 7mm will do and recoil is light compared to the 270.
I use the 6.5 swede and 7mm Mauser and find that the long bullet at 140 gns is fine and shoots nice and straight and does the biz, only ever recovered one bullet as they steam through causing lots of damage in the right places. Never ever use ballistic tips on deer!

6.5 (x47 and x55) is the current favourite north of the Highland line!

Quite a few going for shorties as well apparantly.. 6PPC and variants..

I really wanted my last rifle in 338 Lap mag, but had to settle for 308 beause of the lack of ranges that would allow it. The new power restrictions that came in.

Might have the same problem with 300 win mag.

Don't know if the situation has improved now.
