Indeed, I nearly choked on my vastly overpriced coffee.

IIRC he said something like
"the framework of law is sufficient, it is the application of the framework which needs to be looked at."
Rather suspect that Radio 4 was hoping for someone with a far more "correct" ban everything attitude. Sadly for them they got someone who pointed out the elephant that has been in the room for decades

Possibly not, I just heard a bulletin, and the tone was 'why wasn't his certificate pulled?' rather than 'why are people allowed such things?'
I would hesitate to suggest that the BBC are starting to behave like grownups about firearms, but they may perhaps be approaching their late teens.

However, according to the BBC, the police: "are expected to focus on why he owned six guns."
Now call me simple, if you like, but I would be "focussing" on the circumstances that led him to use one of them to kill members of his family.
As to "Psycho", I wonder if GMP will be "focussing" on how he managed to own even one handgun. I doubt it!
It is the usual reaction to these events, if the gun was licensed, lets focus on the weapon not the person but a completely different set of criteria if the weapon used was illegal.Terry

Now there's a good point, our Mr Psycho here obviously had a firearms licence for the weapon he used because Mr Blair took all the guns of the streets now didn't he?.

This linik provides a sane view of the matter and it's from a senior police officer!
POLICE INSPECTOR BLOG
His blog does contain a certain amount of cynicism flavoured with bitter and twisted, no doubt caused by the burden of incompetant idiots from on high.
Sounds vaguely familiar.Last edited by Drlligaf; 03-01-2012 at 13:19.

I despair every time I see some firearms/shotgun related incident like this (I note that the media either don't understand or cynically refuse to explain the differences between licences) allthough pleasantly surprised that the previous taxi driver nutter incident didn't spawn a knee-jerk reaction I keep expecting additional legislation...
This is purely personal interest based, having only just got around to getting certified and building up my "arsenal" I keep expecting to get it all taken away again...

Police Crystal Ball fails again. « POLICE INSPECTOR BLOG
I have just responded, he seems a sensible chap but some of the comments are pretty priceless and posted by pricks and numpties.
Well as a shooter professional and recreational I welcome the common sense approach and I dont read the printed press so discount them anyway. As an ex soldier I have worked... with Police in difficult situations and know its not an easy career even over this side of the Irish sea! Now if ACPO aka the fundraising arm of the politically biased PC World brigade can temper their enthusiasm for more legislation then perhaps some good can come from this. In fact a cynic would say we should be banning taxi drivers, in fact a sick cynic would say perhaps that removing himself and offspring from the gene pool with firearms was infinitely better and less of a danger to the public than him taking a cab full of drunken geordies down the A1 and into the path of a school bus. Perhaps he has done us all a favour.
Durham Police get the wally quote of the day though, “I’d like to assure everyone that Durham Police are in charge and will be innvestigating this case!” Crystal Ball failure? Methinks they have a Ouija board on issue if they are going to find everything out.
You cant legislate against lunacy and the latest PNC flavour shows FAC and SGC holders but without a human to make the link and ask its still an expensive and possibly pointless addition to your armoury.
As for banning guns? Perhaps banning expressing opinions on subjects people know little about would be more sensible!"I'd rather be a tired old Has been, than a tired old Never Has Been!!"
