Sadly we cant get the soft point 7.62 x 39 here as its not deer legal, its barely humane so I have to hand load.

Alsacien,
As ugly as that stock looks, it's pretty comfortable. The LOP is longer than a standard AK buttstock, and the "thumbhole" is big enough to get the whole hand through.
It's not saying much, but it shoots a hell of a lot better than the Mini 30 I had. Less expensive, to boot.
Beerhunter,
Why can't you use softpoint on the range? Is it just a perception thing?

The expanding ammo is another of the poorly thought out bits of the 1997 act. It made the projectiles sect 5 overnight then they had to exempt slaughterers and stalkers and any others required in law to use expanding ammo!

I make an absolute point of loading even single rounds into my various Lee-Enfield's magazines so as avoid long-term damage to the exonerate claw and spring.

I suspect its being careful with early marks of LE Mag springs not being easily replaced!

Again, tell me more as I've just bought a BSA 1942 No.1 Mk.III*.
Is there some issue with the extractor & spring that I can avoid?
What about shooting round nose bullets...I've read that certain magazines (later ones) don't like them?

A replacement spring for a Lee Enfield extractor is pence. The extractors don't break. Except maybe some very early examples there is no reason not keep magazines charged if needed. Spring steel doesn't take a set by being compressed.
