    Go carefully with a brass pin punch, the pins may not be straight or may be slightly tapered so will only come out easily in one direction.

    I only have one with a pinned barrel, a Norwegian pillar breech rifled musket. Took the barrel off for its restoration and then left it well alone. Barrel bands were a good invention!

    French I think... at least they were first to use them on muskets..

    The trouble with pinning a metal barrel to what is a wooden plank is that the whole thing bends when it gets hot..

    Not that it would make much difference with a musket, I suppose..!
