Re: Dining out after 22 years Regular service.
It must be common pratice Lightning47 because the exact same happened to me. However, it's not going to make me bitter after 20 years what would you really expect - chin up mate.

Filbert, I & 3 others were dined out with a working lunch via the mess you are part off, so it appears to be common practice.
I personally didn’t request it one way or the other. But enjoyed it all the same, the food & company were quality & I woke the next day with a splitting headache.Vote For None Of The Above

Re: Dining out after 22 years Regular service.
At last the time came and went, it was a full Regt Dinner that started at 2pm in Mess Dress, curtains closed candles on, stag do no partners! There was an evening function that partners and guests could go to, although the majority of us were hammered by the time they arrived.
Disappointed that there was no words about the individuals by the presiding member, it was a case of 'whose first' to get up and say bye.
It was a good do though and a fair number of members attended. Farewell lunch from work today and then you sad squaddie b'stards can kiss my arrse.

Just had my dining out in March and a happy medium was found for myself and a fellow Sgt who where leaving our Corps. We had a Top Table lunch in the Mess attended by all who could make it, menu and dress decided by ourselves. Dress was lounge suits, so all where relaxed. Two higher ranks asked us if they could make it their dining out on posting, and we had no problem with this.
When it came to speeches the two higher ranks kept their farewells short and sweet and the floor was left to my colleague and I. Speeches where made and presentations where given.
Apart from the relaxed dress code, all other points of mess traditions where adhered to.
All involved had a great time and I, for one, will always remember the event. The target on my body armour say's " This target definately drops when hit !!"

After 22 years I didn't even get a NAAFI sandwich.
Part of the course being amember of a Corps posted as an individual. 22 year served soldiers should be honoured with a proper dining out, but alas it is not always so
