Well said buggrit. It hurts no one to address an ACF officer correctly. They do hold a commission after all. I was never in the ACF or CCF etc, but it never hurt me to address these people as appropriate to their rank when they were in our barracks. Good mannners cost nothing and it is amazing how much smoother things can go when both sides show a bit of respect. The ACF officers knew that their commissions though real counted for very little in the real Army and never pretended to be something they were not. They also always appreciated the help we were giving them and the kids.

As for the Cadet NCO types I just called them by their ranks and told them what to do and they replied "yes Corporal". All very painless.

Surely a Cadet Sgt Maj should be addressed with courtesy and respect?

Otherwise how else will you be able to gain access to his "more willing" youths?

Is it really that bad for regulars to 'play the game' at least in front of the cadets? So long as there's no rank-pulling involved (ie: if ACF Officer tells reg trooper to do something then it's 'could you please...') then I don't see much of an issue. Plus for cadets being addressed as 'staff' or whatever can be a real boost even if it's in the context of 'get it the feck together, staff!'.

That said at our detach we did once have an AI (an Lt) who tried to order around a sapper at Pribright and was told quite rightly where to stick it. Nobber.

There's no good reason why SMIs and RSMIs shouldn't be given warrants. Sea Cadet CPOs can be promoted to WO2, so why not ACF?

    Quite right,

of course a lot of posters on here are presupposing the ACF guy isn't twice their size, an ex reg, and capable of ripping the ignorant little fucks a new asshole if they show disrepect! I love Keyboard Commandos!!! LOL
