I hold "The Badge" but not a LS&GC. I bet I know which ones worth more! And another thing; Does a civvy company prefer to employ an ex crusty fullscrew with a LS&GC or a LS&GC'less WO?
As there seems to be a general apathy towards the LS&GC is it worth awarding it at all?

Worth more - monetry worth or moral worth?

As for a civvy employer, I agree that they won't care whether you have the LS&GC or moreover whether you were the RSM!

I don't believe there is an apathy towards the LS&GC, apart from that held by those who did not get it. In any event it is an award that is used as a vehicle to inspire others more junior rather than as an accolade directed at the recepient, as by the time a soldier has served 15 years to qualify for it, he is beyond caring whether anyone believes he deserves it or not.

Got caught.... got busted....took it like a man (with a bit of a whimper in the bar afterwards)..... Made an application when 15 yrs clear of undetected crime..... CO approved it.... 'Comittee said no'.... but said to apply later on...... maybe they will.... maybe they won't... would be a nice accolade to have....

2 Reg entries, 1 stupid for no insurance on a motorbike in 1980 and 1 common assault down town Munster 1983, got told no chance in 1996 and 1998 got it after begging letters in 2000 which would have been 19 years reckonable service then.

Have to chuckle at my letter for assault:

"lays testimony to the training I received, not more serious injuries to the spiks blahdeyblahdeyblah"

So if your clerks are on the ball it can be done quicker
Just cos you cant hear the voices does'nt mean they are'nt there!

Do you really believe that the junior members of the services are inspired by the thought of an LS & GC? I don't know anyone who has been motivated in their early carreer by the LS & GC. That sounds like typical guff from the (out of touch) senior level.
Personally, i'd prefer to be able to get my pension after 16 years as officers can, than get a (worthless?) gong after 15. I'd feel a darn sight more valued then.

When I was a Private and I saw the CQMS receiving his LS&GC and heard the Bde Comd read out his citation with the rest of the company in attendance being clapped by the OC and CSM - it inspired me.

However I agree with you that I am now probably in the minority. Nonetheless, if only one junior soldier is inspired by such an accolade then it will have achieved more than nothing.
