I have a lot of friends who follow the Jambos and more who follow the Hibbies. They are in turn friendly with each other - except when a "protestant" team are playing a "Catholic" one. Then banter begins but it does not necessarily remain as banter and occasionally it can get edgy as feck. Luckily there are one or two of us who follow non-confrontationally sectarian teams who restore common sense and goodwill.
If you follow teams like queens, Saints, the Dees or Aberdeen, then sectarianism is not at the forefront of your repertoire of epithets. If you are a hun, a pape, a Jambo or a fan of the Cabbage...then it is the first point of reference. Sectarianism is rife in scottish football. Fact. It is particularly unpleasant when an Old firm game or the Edinburgh derby is under the microscope.

Scotland, like Ni, do have establishments and organisations that are, and always will be at Polar opposites. They are very influential and sway opinion. One is getting weaker and losing membership but the other is wooed and given vast wealth from the public purse to continue its influence and hold. One is the Orange Order and the other is the RC church.
If the chains of the links to the society they claim to serve were broken that would go a long way to improve things. It would take time but it would change. It wont happen because, as has been shown how much politicos crave and fear influentials like News International, they don't have the balls to do the right thing.
End segregated schooling, it is a Victorian concept that is no longer required, and make it clear that the OO has had it's day and has no place in a modern Scotland.
But no, they would rather throw even more money at catching the wee guys using bad words. And I don't think it's just an SNP thing, although they are too willing to grab the headlines with it, there are far too many second raters at Holyrood desperate to look like they are doing something not to jump on this particular publicity band-wagon.
Politicians are all bastards. Religion is their sheepdog.
Oh, IMO.Thanks to all who read my little contributions and don't shout nasty words at me, it means so much and I like the likes. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for their tremendous support throughout my career and without whom I would not be standing here today. Also my agent, she's been my rock.
Do be careful though as Hector and his clique may descend upon you with their stock in trade proclamations of your inherent inferiority. And as it's the internet, they get off on it.

Reference this new law that the SNP are pushing through; I read the other day that potentially you could get longer jail time for shouting nasty words at one of your rival supporters than you could for stabbing him!!!!

"Sectarianism" is there, often in plain sight. You do not see it. Therefore, to you, it does not exist.
Whatever.

Yes, due to incompetence and the fact it was a hysterical reaction (probably).

Enter, stage left:
Sticks and Stones may break my bones,
But words will ... really, really, hurt, they can be so cruel and leave me scarred for what remains of my then pitiful existence. Stabbing me would be a kindness.
Exit, stage left, flouncing with a drudge-like step and one hand drawn theatrically over eyes.
