To be fair, most. Are you not trying to convert me to your beliefs?

Like I said before, your arguments are flawed by the fact you exhibit the very same tenets that you accuse 'religionists' of using.
Incidentally, as said before I went to an RC primary school, RC secondary school and an RC VI form. The point being? After God knows how many years of what you would view as indoctrination, I got a first class education, was taught how to question and think independently (which you allege believers are incapable of) and most surprisingly of all, given your bone assertions, left my belief in most of the tenets of Catholicism by the wayside. So your suppositions would appear somewhat limited.
Religious belief in most cases is harmless, yet some posters on here are obsessed with concentrating on its most harmful aspects and attributing those characteristics to all religions and believers.Making mock of uniforms that guard you while you sleep, is cheaper than them uniforms, and they're starvation cheap . . .

Re: Are you religious?
Nope - I care not what you believe. Just don't expect me to treat your belief with respect. I am fairly certain that if I was certain that Santa or fairies existed and developed an entire religion around it then you would think that I was a fruitcake and have little respect for those ideas; I think that the arguments to support the existence of god are as credible as any fairy-theory. And I apply that to all religions; I have no idea which one is nearest the truth and I doubt you have. None of them bring anything substantive to the argument for god, despite the vehement protestations of the pious.

Re: Are you religious?
So, according to your last sentence, the problem is not religion but man. Religion has been used all too often as an excuse for violence and extension of power. Blame that on human nature-if it wasn't religion it would be something else.
I don't believe I have professed to know which religion is nearest the truth but the difference is I have been taught to show respect to all. It would appear that you only respect what coincides with your point of view. You can vehemently disagree with something but still be respectful. My job demands it. Personally, be as disrespectful as you please-I certainly don't demand you respect my beliefs.
But from some of the comments of atheists on here, you lot are more militant, and certainly more patronising, than any fundamentalists. The poll at the top last time I checked suggests a fairly even split between believers and heathens, so clearly there's a lot of gullible people out there.

Re: Are you religious?
Of course it's man that's the issue - he uses religion, which is man made, as a reason for some of those issues.

Re: Are you religious?
What do you mean respect? Do you mean accept without question or do you mean tread lightly where religious views are concerned in case you offend someone. That's not respect - that's pussy-footing around sensitivities.

Comments and ideas like this are unacceptable today, yet there are the religious who regard them as sacred and do not deserve any respect whatsoever. This is at the extreme end of comments, I grant you, but when you then add this to ideas that are clearly fantastical, it becomes difficult to respect religion.

Extreme to say the least but if it helps you prove a point.

Re: Are you religious?
Hardly extreme. The Bible and Koran have some pretty vile things in them. That is a fact, to expect people to ignore that is asking a bit much.

Re: Are you religious?
I'm not asking you to ignore anything. I'm just saying I'm too busy slaying idolators, being Christian, to come back with a reasonoble argument.
