Discuss 16 fd sqn, 25 engrs at the Sappers forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; Deadmonty, what happen to Gus after he came to you guys?...
I knew Gus when he was at 43. I was posted to 39 Engr Regt and he turned up fresh from Felixstowe. As I recall, Customs had done a strip search of his car and found ammunition in the door panels. He claimed it belonged to the car's previous owner - he had only recently bought it.
This would have been around 86 or 87. I believe he was handed over to either the RMP or SIB and removed from the camp that day. That was the last I saw of him.
I was with 16 Fd Sqn 1965 - 69 (with a regimental duties tour off and on in RHQ) 16 Fd Sqn was part of 23 Engr Regt then with 25 Engr Regt on the other side of camp! I had the nickname 'Mole' short, skinny as a rake, big nose and even larger ears lol!
I was attached to 12 Sqn as an OCdt in 86. There was a mahoosive big gun near the main gate that the Dropshorts worshipped daily. One evening I was lead astray into helping to paint it with large yellow spots. It took about 15 minutes before the guard spotted us and gave chase. How we laughed the next day as everyone was inspected for signs of yellow paint on their hands. :D
A couple of years later, whilst I was at 32 in MonkeyLarger, 16 Sqn were universally referred to as "16 Circus Sqn" to be accompanied by singing of circus type music.
Drive on recklessly, give no quarter and take no prisoners; anything that comes into our sights should be mown down.
Obersturmbannfuhrer Jochen Peiper 1st SS Panzer Regiment.
Now that's what I call a Mission Intent.

That was Gus's main form of entertainment on a sunday afternoon....apart from locking himself in his room with loads of herforder and a clutch of movies for a solo porn fest!!!
