Cynical but love em or hate em the Gunners over the past decade have been brilliant at reinventing themselves and adapting to change better than other Corps mine included. Just thought I'd add that I had a cracking time at Masserene with 25 Tenko was great and the lads even better!

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.

To my mind RE "identity" has always been with your squadron, not the Regt "flag". So the comparisons with other capbadges that have kept lots of tiny units, against us that have big 3 or 4 squadron regiments is not comparing like with like.

I'm not sure what's going to happen to sub-units; didn't hear anything about a Sqn from 39 going. 25 going wasn't that bad given that in affect, we've only lost an HQ sqn there. There's going to be some changes to 12 group though, title change to Force Support so hopefully stepping away from the Cold War focus on air support. I'm not suprised about 28, amph has been dying a death for years, the rigs were very close to mothballing last year so looks like that is going to be a purely TA capability.
I did giggle when it was annouced that TA regiments are going to be closely affiliated to their regular counterparts. Just as well 39 is really close to where the TA air support regiments are. Oh right, they aren't and I can't see the T & S budget stretching to flying guys up to Kinloss for a weekend!Royal Engineers - bodging stuff since 1856

Not a sapper so wondering what the reasons are behind 24 going? I thought the idea was for UK to have a rapid reaction force? Surely 3 CDO must be a major part of this, would a brigade of this kind not need a large engineer component?

28's been pulling away from rigs for years and as a stand alone regt it was in the offing anyhow. Celles closed and fallys moving into hohne so the big garrison style towns were drawing in the waif and strays for ages. So as 28 is left on its own it's an expensive camp to keep, especially when it's only one sqn that runs them. You'd have to be blind to not see it coming I'm just surprised its not till 2015.
Just cos you cant hear the voices does'nt mean they are'nt there!
