Both articles mention that “The Trojan is a heavily armoured and accessorised version of the Challenger tank”.

Does anyone know if these are these brand new Challenger tank chassis, or existing Challenger tanks withdrawn from service with turret removed, and rebuilt?

Seems strange that this beast, which i have heard is not the most reliable of equipments, can be sent out there with all of the required G4 to support it, but CR2 cant go........................wheres the logic in that. Surely the spares packages are interchangeable for major assemblies at least. Lets get some tanks out there ASP and give the boys the ground support they need!

Is the Python the same beast as the Giant Viper, or is it a new all singing and dancing version?
How can what an Englishman believes be heresy? It is a contradiction in terms. GBS

So many questions, and yet no answers!

Have all the RE gone off to the bar?

the chassis is new, being specifically designed as Engineer vehicles, the other being Titan, the vehicles use some challenger running gear, but the powerpack and cooling is different,

its actual quite reliable, the special to role equipment issues have now all been ironed out

there is no requirement for CR2, Trojan is far better armoured than CR2 was ever designed to be

the python hose is the same as Giant Viper, but uses a different single rocket, and control unit

The Sappers don't really leave the bar, there's just, sometimes, longer gaps between rounds.

    Hope that helps.

How the hell do you come to that reasoning, when was the last time that Trojan could take out a bunker with HE at 3kms, then put down fully stabilised 7.62 mm at 50 kmh, while using smoke that it can see through to mask its movement.....................Trojan is for digging holes and clearing mines as well as creating crossings for Tanks to move through, its a bloody support vehicle not an offensive weapon. God might well be armoured mate but remember armoured relates to Armoured Fighting Vehicles not Armoured support vehicles!

It's one way to keep the wretched mechs out the bar/stop them headbutting walls for fun.... And we wouldn't want to let our CRARRVs rust away in a hangar somewhere would we?

i said armoured, not fighting, it has all the support it needs in theater, it has enough built in protection to not require a ring of steel, it is allowed to operate on its own

there is no need for CR2 in Afghanistan, the role of Trojan is not as a battlefield mobility platform for main battle tanks, its role, which is going to change again, does not require CR2

Well not quite on its own, think Coy+ for local security and then OC TAC, A Ech so on and so on............

It was and is a political gesture based on poor understanding of the current threat in theatre. However at least the Armd trade s protected for another 10 years plus of course we finally used a very expensive bit of kit for the 1st time to justify the procurement.......
