Shame all the news headlines are Minogue and Parkinson though, both thoroughly undeserving.
I agree about Parkinson, but something had to be done to ensure his retirement was permanent. Minogue however, has done more for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan than the majority of politicians (unless any posters will admit to having a shandy while thinking about Margaret Beckett, Patricia Hewitt etc).

Or, heaven forbid, Ruth "hobbit" Kelly. Kylie has a great arse, but deserving of an OBE?
"I firmly believe that we should not march into Baghdad. To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day Arab hero. Assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinnable urban guerrilla war." George Bush Snr, A World Transformed, 1998
Is Sir Michael Parkinson related to the chat show host and professional northerner who once said that he didn't believe in honours and wouldn't accept one if it was offered?
