The legend I heard about the Gammy was that in the depths of time, one of them had a gammy leg and it stuck from there.

As for the walkout, I was indeed out that night. Best memory was the Sqn lunatic, called Jock T***ie, who decided he wanted a piece of half a dozen of the local neds on his own, armed with half a broom handle, lovingly decorated with ammo studs. He was a proper heed the baw.

The pool table went through the window of the Glue Pot.

Jack, I graduated with Fritz D. My Senior Term pic is still up on the wall in my downstairs dunny. A certain Santa is on there too......

30 years this year since S_S and I went through the gates at Pennypot Lane

Fritz D****s once paid a visit to my recruit troop - carefully escorted by the AT SGT (Tall chap, black hair - was AT SSM on my graduation at xmas 82). Put the fear of god in us, even more so than any of the PS ever could! The occasional threat of an unescorted visit worked very well....

    Where is he now?

Jock To**ie! I'd forgotten about him. Thinking back, we had our fair share of lunatics in Ra Ra Rawson then. Tony S***ks and Nick G****in are another couple that I recall from all those years ago! It seemed like every other Monday the old bill would pitch up to "talk" with Nick about some incident he may have "witnessed" in London over the weekend!
(Glad it's only 28 years since I went through those gates)

Pigwin ! I was in the same room as him for a couple of terms and I was in the cookhouse when St*cksy snotted the chef. He must have been the only apprentice to get chucked out of the Army between finishing his trade and graduating !

We must surely know each other....

Fritz D and Jock Read were in Scott Sqn so were always around the lines.

Hairy was Alex Kubu the SSM when you were there?

Fritz had one party trick where he would snap a cookhouse knife in half .

Admitted he also used to cut his hand open every time but it is a very hard trick to replicate.

AT SSM L*****Y the ginger knob! remember him?

An AT SSM ginger knob does sound familiar - don't recall the name. Didn't he make AT RSM and get a good shoeing at his first unit? Big bloke?

Don't recall the SSM - bloody scary how poor my memories of Harrogate are! Tp Sgt was Paddy....? The OC was a tall skinny chap - nervous type; 2 ic was an ex-ranker - had an expression that made him look like he'd just stepped in some dog shit.

Other AT names I remember from Scott at the time include Si N*r**s, P**l C**p*r...

Oh yeah... remember him... wasn't his first unit 7 Sigs... and it was some liney on guard that lamped him... something about ex AT RSM telling him carry his bags for him...?

My era, same as Mamontgo's (81b - 83c) Bradley had an OC who was cycling past trade blocks at chucking out time... pile of books under one arm... first squad salutes him... he salutes back with spare hand... erm... you can imagine the mess can't you?!!! Class!
