Re: 216 and 264 Flat Cap Berets
As a lazy jelly doughnut eating git i can honestly say who cares.
I'm in blandford now on a course with 264 lads and 216 lads and they're decent blokes. They dont big time it and for fucks sake they only wear their berets walking from the block to the catterick building, its about 400 metres, and how much big timing can you get in in that far. Even if they do venture off wider then its Blandford you aint got to go that far to get to anywhere. whats next whinging cos they were smocks to.

Re: 216 and 264 Flat Cap Berets
during my 4 years in 5AB Bde, my and the RSM's constant battle was enforcing the reattachment of 'swinging Jimmys' ( the result of Andy Capp berets). They don't make you look hard. There is no practical use. There is no tradition of it (take a look at those old photos of the seriously well hard Arnhem boys and their 'helicopter landing site' berets!!!) Can anyone tell me why it (swinging Jimmys / Andy Capp berets) happens?[/i][/b]
It's only the depth that varies.

Re: 216 and 264 Flat Cap Berets
It was a Para Reg thing! Cos they wore theirs like that, all the Para Trained lads copied the style to fit in. Just made life more easier. Afterwards it was copied by everyone in the unit. Problem occured when everyone was allowed to wear the red beret.

Re: 216 and 264 Flat Cap Berets
The beret shape comes from the Victor berets that the guys bought on passing P Coy ("Gentlemen, congratulations, you have now earned the right to wear the coveted maroon beret"). They only shape one way and that is floppy. However the new pups habit of wearing berets like a mushroom is because they are copying the old and bold, and the new berets don`t shape like Victors, they shape like flat caps.
When you have passed either of the selection courses (P Coy, probation, Commando Cse) you should walk about with a bit of a swagger. The lads in maroon, sand and green berets in Blandford just show what a diverse Corps we are.

Re: 216 and 264 Flat Cap Berets
Why do 216 and 264 think they can wear Flat Cap berets?
Are they Yorkshiremen
10 pounds to the person who starts a sigs thread that doesn't mention:
Flat Caps
Techs being binned
IS Ops
but I do think Yorkshire Signals units should have flat caps
p.s. Disco and MSR are paying
