Somethingto think about, the Indians have got a STOBAR carrier working.
Before someone suggests it, NO, Typhoon cannot be used in this way. There, just quash that swiftly and then we can get on with discussing how an up and coming superpower has developed the initial stages of what could be a useful capability and if they are using it as a stepping stone to a full fat carrier or if they will stick with this way of doing things.RAC(TA) - 2006-2009

Sir Walter Raleigh declared in the early 17th century that "whoever commands the sea, commands the trade; whosoever commands the trade of the world commands the riches of the world, and consequently the world itself." This principle is as true today as when uttered, and its effect will continue as long as ships traverse the seas."

Britain’s participation in the JSF debacle proceeds like a train derailment in slow motion. The local rag in
Fort Worth took a break from reporting on union disputes at the F-35 assembly plant, to bring it’s readers
some light relief. The UK Defence Secretary must have succumbed to the heat in Texas last week as he
ploughed through a ceremony to accept handover of Britain’s first (untested & unproven) Stealth Fighter.
“I felt a bit short changed for the cost,” the Member for Runnymede & Weybridge is quoted as saying.

Thank you Phillip. That really inspires confidence. If Panetta is still Sec Def after the November elections
he will remember your wise crack, and note that the United Kingdom will always remain the ‘receptive’
partner on the Joint Strike Fighter project. America has already transferred her Special Relationship status
onto Israel by allowing them to fit their equipmentto the F-35I airframe. A victory for the Jewish Lobby
in Washington. But who is lobbying for Britain’s interests in Washington? That would be BAE Systems.
Defence analysts from the aviation industry interpreted some of Hammond’s other remarks to indicate that
around 48 F-35BK might be ordered for the Royal Navy, and the remainder of Britain’s JSF procurement
might be switched to deliver F-35A's for the Royal Air Force. That would be a logical decision, although it
confirms the Jointery arguments used to justify a switch back to the STORVL variant were always flawed.

Its dropping big bombs now from internal weapons bays.
Not sure why it needs the mock AIM-9X out there though?Last edited by Rawhide; 12-08-2012 at 05:29.
I’ve heard that fact, that is you eat more than 6 bananas it will kill you.
I saw a bowl with 7 bananas in it, and i thought, that’s dangerous.

Serengeti Camouflage.
I think they are reference points so you can accurately map the behaviour of the ordnance in relation to the aircraft and itself for computer analysis and such things.
Unlike a gun or rocket which are fired with energy, these are free fall, so if it doesnt fall as fast or in the right direction or orientation there could be problems with hitting other ordnance (if you drop 4 at once say).
Some releases in the past (not jsf) resulted in the bomb actually 'flying' once released back into the Aircraft or the drag on the fins flipped the bomb up and it hits the wing.Last edited by Rawhide; 14-08-2012 at 10:08.

Errrm ,ok but wouldn't a 500mph flying cheetah arouse a little suspicion? I know they are fast...
Reminds me of a very proud US airfore wallah during GW1 stating that the F117 would look nothing more than a seagul to enemy radar only to be asked if a seagul flying at several hundreds of mph wouldn't look a bit odd.
