I don't think the public have the foggiest how bad things are in RN land and how much worse they are about to get.

That's exactly what is going to happen - watch this space.

But the announcement will not be made until we have a new government/P.M., so a couple of years to go.

WE CAN'T MAN, NOR DO WE HAVE SUFFICIENT ESCORTS, TO DEPLOY TWO CARRIERS ALONG WITH THE NECESSARY ESCORT SCREENS AND RFA'S.

We shall be down to using the old 'well-used trawler' screen soon. Sorry, what was that .... ? we don't have any trawlers either .... ??!!

Lets hope we don't have another Dunkirk moment.

I've tried to be positive about this on the old blog - any thoughts are always welcome. Personally I dont think its as bad as mad out to be.

An article in praise of having a STOVL carrier fleet. Worth reading, especially for the likes of Suno.

Considering the BEF was bigger than the entire British Army is now and much bigger than we will be in a couple of years and there's more chance of Nicole Scherzingher and Nicky Minaj turning up at my front door and demanding that I service them until my cock drops off than there is of the UK being involved in a mainland European war in the next few years, I don't think a Dunkirk moment is all that likely.

What qualifications to having an opinion on carrier strike does Mallinson have that anyone on this thread doesn't?

A man who thinks that developing a military alliance with those giants of the international scene and military colossus that is Italy is a better idea than being mates with France and that being able to operate with the USMC (as good as they are) only instead of being able to operate with the French and US Navies with their real carrier air groups and still being able to host the USMC is better, by the way.

The longer range problems of this decision are well canvassed in the third comment to Sir Humphrey's blog.
Dr Johnson: 'Any man thinks less of himself for not having been a soldier, or not having been to sea.'

Thiomas Babington Macaulay, quoted by Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fisher of Kilverstone: 'Moderation in war is imbecility!'

Douglas MacArthur: 'There is no substitute for Victory!'
