“The British people can face peril or misfortune with fortitude and buoyancy, but they bitterly resent being deceived or finding that those responsible for their affairs are themselves dwelling in a fool’s paradise”. Winston Churchill
I think this article is a fairly fitting tribute to Oz and the work he and all the other teams are doing out in Helmand. Having bleeped in Afghan on several IEDD teams I can assure you that an Operator dealing with over 30 devices in one sitting is a truly remarkable acheivement.
Having done a fair bit of admin on the Roll of Honour this week, I read the article about Oz on the MoD website in anticipation of adding his name, and CO 2 Rifles comments really stood out:
Superlatives do not do the man justice. Better than the best. Better than the best of the best.
Not coming from the AT world Oz's path and mine never did cross, though I regret that they did not. My thoughts are with his wife and family at this time, as I know are yours all.
Not being one to post on RIP threads. I will add only this. My personal respects go out to all you EOD bods, yer all as mad as a box of frogs, with balls of steel and the nerve of a sergeon.

I'm a journalist working for the Mail on an extended tribute piece to S/Sgt Schmid, particularly looking for anecdotal recollections that will hopefully make our piece more accurate. Under the ARRSE rules, I quote the following.
** Most importantly ** please don't ask in open forum for serving personnel to contact you, although it is perfectly acceptable to place contact details in your user profile.
If you decide to send private messages (PMs - the site user-to-user messaging system) to members as a result of answers on the forum, please make it clear that they may be breaking DIN003-06 in discussing service matters with you.

Assuming of course you verify the authenticity of any such anecdotes/stories and don't just go quoting made up tales from some of the more Reality Impaired people that may contact you....
Surely going directly through the correct channels would be a much better approach?
